It is actually not all that difficult to ship a reptile, but MUST be done properly to ensure a safe trip. Larger animals are usually shipped in reptile bags, or pillowcases. They are also occasionally shipped in large tupperware containers. Small reps are shipped in small tupperware containers, or deli cups. You put paper towel in the tupperware or deli cup. If the animal needs high humidity you would soak the paper towel, and if not leave it dry. After the lid is on (complete with plenty of air holes), you would prepare your box for shipping. You can order boxes that are fully ready at shipyoureptiles.com or you can make your own. I always made my own. You would cut out sheets of Styrofoam (you can get these at Home Depot or Lowe's), and line all 4 inside walls of the box with it (it will need to be measured and cut). After that, take wadded up newspaper, or shredded paper and pack it in the middle of the styrofoam. After, place you rep's container (whatever you have chosen to use) on top of the packed in newspaper, and then pack more paper all around the container to keep it from moving during shipping. Be sure it is packed in very well, but none on top! The breathing holes need to be clear! After, you would take your final measured out piece of styrofoam and place it on top to allow room for air, but to also hold the container steady. If you are shipping to a hot climate you will need to purchase an ice pack and securely tape it to the underneath of the top styrofoam piece. If it is going to a cool climate, do the same with a heat pack. NEVER ship anywhere that is too hot or too cold the day of arrival. Check the weather, use your better judgment (it gets hot in that box). After you have everything safe, and secure, you will tape up your box, write on it LIVE HARMLESS REPTILE, and take it to fed ex. You will not put in the rep or take it to ship out until RIGHT before fed ex closes. The least amount of time it sits there, or is in shipping the better. Oh, and ONLY ship over night next day delivery...PERIOD. Make sure a sig is required to get the box. Anyhow, that is how it is done. It is very safe when done correctly Oh and btw, that is a beautiful dragon you have there! I wish you all the luck in the world!
