Hello,

Ok, great. I hope she is doing well. Today is friday so definitely let me know how the vet visit goes.
Wow that is really good to hear she is getting some color back into her arm/hand, is the swelling going
down too?
I'm sure that she will love more insect variety. Keep her well hydrated right now. We are all pulling for
her.

I took her in on Friday, they said they would call with results, I never heard back that evening, I called on Saturday but they were closed… I’m now starting to see that back ankle swelling again and the toe on her other back foot. It’s so crazy she still uses all of them and is so alert! Eating, drinking, moving normally… when my last baby passed she was lethargic and you could tell something was wrong. I’m attaching pics. I’ll call first thing in the morning for those blood results.

Yes please post those test results --- Tracie will be able to help you better than I --- just make sure your surface basking temps are up to par taken w/ a digital probe thermometer and your using a long tube fixture for UVB properly placed and distance

Hello,

The swelling is definitely present. I hope you get those test results soon. It is a very good sign that
she is still acting pretty normal & eating too. Her beard is normal color also right now?
Try to keep her as hydrated as you can, daily so help out her kidneys. Let us know how she is doing.

I called again today, they said it takes a while to get the test results back… I was under the impression that they did the tests right there at their office, but I guess not.
Her beard is normal color, I have been watching that closely. I soak her daily and give her drops of water from a syringe. Her bowel movements are normal too. As soon as I get the results I’ll post them!

Finally talked to the vet. Uric acid levels are elevated. Going to start her in allopurinol and colchicine, plus fluid injections (daily?) under the skin to keep her hydrated and keep her kidneys flushed out. I did not get a copy of the blood tests yet, but I’ll have them email them to me tomorrow.

Hello,

Yes, unfortunately, most vet offices don't have lab capabilities there in house & usually send the tests off to another lab for results. I will be anxious to see the
uric acid levels & other blood values, too. So they are going to go ahead &
start her on the Allopurinol & Colchicine then? That should help a lot then, for
gout. How long do they want her to receive the subcutaneous fluid injections?
I am glad she seems to be doing well & her beard is normal color & not dark. It
sounds like she is feeling pretty good overall!
Keep us posted on her.

Ok I got the results, when they said elevated I figured a little high… if I’m reading this right, she is over double the high end of normal!!!! We only did the Uric acid test not a whole blood panel because I couldn’t afford the $300 bill right now.
The vet called me back later last night and said that her colleague, the exotics specialist, said she didn’t need injections, but I do need to soak her twice a day for 10 minutes. I soak her daily anyway so that’s a lot easier!

Yes, we’ll start both as soon as I can get the prescriptions… this vet is truly not the most reliable or kind in my opinion. I guess both meds have to be compounded, they were supposed to call them in to the pharmacy this morning, but they didn’t. Coincidentally, the vets office was calling them in at the same time I was calling the vet…they have caller ID, knew exactly who I was and didn’t even ask for my info…
Nora ate great today, finally got the live BSFL. She loves them. Her stool is normal and her urates are normal as well. It’s just this swelling! Does this mean she probably has kidney failure? And what does that mean for her life span??

We need Tracie to read the results and she can advise on your questions- why does the vet want you to soak her 2 times per day for 10 min ?

To help keep her hydrated. But after reading a bunch of threads and doing some research, should I consider doing the subcutaneous injections?? I feel like I get a lot more answers here than from the vet…

Does she drink from the bath every time you put her in it? I would drop water on her nose and let her drink that way - too many baths are going to dry her scales out -- you can also use a eye dropper to feed her water -- I drop water on my dragons heads and let them drink like that a puddle forms under them on the mat I use for the substrate and then they will lick the water off the mat -- afterwards I use a paper towel and mop up the water they dont drink

Sometimes she drinks from the bath but I always drop water on her nose and offer it through a medicine dropper. I haven’t noticed signs of dehydration, but I’m keeping a close eye on her

Hello,

Thanks for posting the blood test results. At 16mg/dl is pretty
high so I am glad the vet went ahead & got her started on the
Allopurinol & Colchicine. I hope she responds to it quickly. Be
sure to keep he hydrated daily.
Yeah, they aren't meds that are usually kept on hand & ready
to go.
How is she doing?

Watch her urate and poop - you want white formed moist urate no dried out chalky looking and the poop dark formed and moist as well -- any extra water is good just means shes good and hydrated

She only poops in her bath water. Which is nice for keeping the enclosure clean, but more difficult to see how much water is in her poop. She never struggles to poop, and I can tell the white is not chalky. I got her to drink a lot yesterday, so that’s good.
The vet is still not cooperating and I don’t have the meds yet. There is another med they want to give her, but I’m not sure what it’s called. After reading a bunch of other threads on here I’m afraid to give her anything more than necessary. The vet tech is supposed to call me back today so that I’ll find out what that other med is and see what y’all think about giving it to her!

Hello,

Can you please try to find out the name of the other medication
they want to give, instead? If it's an antibiotic, I highly recommend
steering away from that because with gout, it will make it worse.
So is the vet not going to give the Allopurinol at all then? Please
send me a PM if you need help with getting the meds.
I don't believe she is in renal failure right now, but those levels do
need to come down, as soon as possible.

Let us know how she is doing!

Finally got the med situation figured out. Vet is only going to put her on allopurinol and wait on the colchicine until after 30 days and a recheck of Uric acid levels. But I’m not taking her back to that vet, I’ll find a new one, I’m so unimpressed with this one. Anyway, I forgot to ask about the name of the other med, I don’t think it was an antibiotic, the vet said she would recommend giving it to her because it would be beneficial. I got the impression it was a supplement or vitamin or something. I’ll call again, they definitely love hearing from me!! Haha! I hoped to get the allopurinol yesterday, but it’s a 30 min drive to the pharmacy and they closed before I could get there. I’ll go right after work today.
Nora is still eating and drinking normally, she still loves her snuggle time, beard is not black, she’s alert and happy! Will the allopurinol take the swelling down in her joints? Or will that just be her norm now? I’ll post dosages later when I get that information!
