Ok that is the basking light- I was referencing the uvb- the temp is going to drop w/ it being raised- you need the uvb w/ no screen and distance 12-15 inches- you need the probe gauge as soon as possible-Here is a better picture of him

Ah okay. Whats the best way to mount it? I have to have a cover, my BF has a cat…Ok that is the basking light- I was referencing the uvb- the temp is going to drop w/ it being raised- you need the uvb w/ no screen and distance 12-15 inches- you need the probe gauge as soon as possible-
Under the screen then - or cut a hole for just the uvb -Ah okay. Whats the best way to mount it? I have to have a cover, my BF has a cat…
Ah okay so mount the bar light under the lid right? Is the basking light okay where it is?Under the screen then - or cut a hole for just the uvb -
You want the UVB directly over the basking decor piece 12-15 inches - so see how high your decor piece is and measure from the UVB to it - you dont want it over 15" otherwise hes not going to get the rays he needs- I looked at your pic again and it looks like the UVB will be in correct distance in the tank - the basking light hanging is fine you just dont want it closer than 6" so if its on the screen its ok as long as your not getting too hot of temps on that decor piece under it that is why I said you need that probe temp gauge as soon as possible -- its going to tell you to either keep it where it is or you can always set it on the screen and go to a lower wattage bulb but you need that probe to get the tempsAh okay so mount the bar light under the lid right? Ah gotcha. To make sure I understand, mound the long bulb under the grate and keep the basking bulb where it is for now and get the temp probe when I can to make sure its not too hot for him?You want the UVB directly over the basking decor piece 12-15 inches - so see how high your decor piece is and measure from the UVB to it - you dont want it over 15" otherwise hes not going to get the rays he needs- I looked at your pic again and it looks like the UVB will be in correct distance in the tank - the basking light hanging is fine you just dont want it closer than 6" so if its on the screen its ok as long as your not getting too hot of temps on that decor piece under it that is why I said you need that probe temp gauge as soon as possible -- its going to tell you to either keep it where it is or you can always set it on the screen and go to a lower wattage bulb but you need that probe to get the temps
Yes and the sooner the better - correct surface basking temps are crucial here - I think you said it was coming tomorrow?Ah gotcha. Should be yes. Can the rock structure burn him if its too close? And would he move if it was burning him at all?Yes and the sooner the better - correct surface basking temps are crucial here - I think you said it was coming tomorrow?
If the rock structure gets too hot yes it can burn his stomach - if its too hot on the back they usually will move but I have seen burns on dragons backs if the basking light is less than 6" - rocks too hot you will see them curl the toes/ nails up and you can see burn marks on the feet themselves -- that is why you need the probe -once you get the probe place it where he is sitting for basking and let it sit there for 10 min or longer to get a tempShould be yes. Okay thank you! He seems to really like the spot and went to sleep there. I just want him to do well since he is my first dragon! If the rock structure gets too hot yes it can burn his stomach - if its too hot on the back they usually will move but I have seen burns on dragons backs if the basking light is less than 6" - rocks too hot you will see them curl the toes/ nails up and you can see burn marks on the feet themselves -- that is why you need the probe -once you get the probe place it where he is sitting for basking and let it sit there for 10 min or longer to get a temp
Does that have a probe or are you talking about a IR gunUpdate! I found a very basic infrared thermometer at walgreens since the one I ordered is delayed until tomorrow for whatever reason. But he did eat some fresh kale just now!
Its just a gun one, the proba should be coming tomorrow. I just wanted a basic idea of what the temp was on that sideDoes that have a probe or are you talking about a IR gun
You want photo period of 12 hrs on and 12 hrs off -- he should have at least 2-3 hrs of basking time after eating --Also how long should lights be off at night for him?
Okay cool! He only ate a few pieces of kale. You want photo period of 12 hrs on and 12 hrs off -- he should have at least 2-3 hrs of basking time after eating --
At least he ate some - his main dish is insects but you want him eating some salads-Okay cool! He only ate a few pieces of kale.
He is shedding his skin. Is that normal for how small he is? Just want to make sure he is still healthyAt least he ate some - his main dish is insects but you want him eating some salads-
