Hi everyone
We are new bearded dragon owners. We have a two month old baby and she is precious. She eats and basks but barely stays awake during the day. We have brought her back to the reptile experts where We got her from and they said she just has a lethargic personality. I’m having trouble accepting that as true. Does anyone know anything about Why she might be very very lazy
The temp, bulbs, diet and habitat are all correct from what we have been told.
We are struggling and want to interact with her but she barely moves about
Thanks

She should be active basking and eating some-- she should not be lethargic -- please go over the surface basking temps and how your getting them NO stick ons-- your UVB coil or long tube and where it is placed on the tank -- we will start there - basking bulbs should be a solid clear bright white bulb NO yellowish NO colored NO off white or Daytime bulbs please

I asked these questions on your other post -- how are you getting the surface basking temps? Digital probes are the most accurate - you want your surface basking temps 105-110 - please get rid of the Reptisa bulb - I have never heard of this bulb and my guess is shes not getting enough UVB -- the best MVB are the PowerSun and MegaRay but they are spendy and you will still need a long tube fixture to back up the MVB - they often do not emit enough UVB depending on the placement and distance of the bulb -- it can be tricky to get so my recommendation is to replace the basking bulb w/ a Flukers basking or Exo Terra Intense or a Arcadia Halogen bulb -- start w/ a 100 watt I dont know the size of the tank so its going to be trial and error w/ this -- I recommend 3 good UVB's for you -- if you want the links please ask I will post them - but you need to get the lighting on par or you will have a sick dragon on your hands -- please come here for more advice the Pet store you got her from is not very helpful and your dragon should not be lethargic

Hi thank you so much
This is my set up and my bulb. And the temp from a thermometer on the basking rock reads 98/100
Her eyes are often closed or half open she’s so cute but seems like she’s playing dead or very tired

Wow you are so very kind and helpful I posted some info on my other post
I’m new to this site and forums in general so I didn’t mean to post multiple places
If you don’t mind, can you send me the link to those bulbs? I’ll purchase them today. We have a 40 gallon tank.

Can I also ask if I buy the bulb you recommend
Do I need a second bulb or will one of those be enough for a 40 gallon tank?
I’m confused if I need heat and uvb uva bulb or one bulb for all

Thank you thank you

You want a basking bulb thats going to keep your surface basking temps 105-110-- if you need a higher wattage then try it - start w/ 100 watt - go from there - your digital probe thermometer is going to tell you - the UVB needs to be a long tube fixture - you can use the MVB for heat and UVB but usually they arent adequate enough for UVB -- that is why they are are recommended as a back up as well - I personally would ditch the MVB and get the basking bulb Walmart sells Flukers go on search type in Flukers basking bulb - I get mine from there -- I usually buy 4-6 bulbs at a time as I have 2 tanks and we are going into winter so I want them on hand I have 2 120 gallon tanks so I am using more than one bulb - my tanks are set up w/ a hot side and middle of the tank another basking area where the UVB is but those temps are in the 90's where the hot side is around 100 ambient -- your 40 gallon tank should have a hot side basking temps 105-110 and ambient around 100 and the cool side of the tank 80 ish -- your UVB will need to be placed and distanced for the screen on the tank -- that will determine where it goes - if you want the links for any of these things please ask

Shes very tiny please get the basking bulb changed out I see a yellowish hue - please get one of the basking bulbs Exo Terra Intense found at Pet Smart they are spendy you can order Flukers from Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fluker-s...GULAR&selectedSellerId=101138833&from=/search get one of these and one of these
start there use a digital probe thermometer to get actual basking temps
2 of these https://www.petsmart.com/reptile/en...tile-terrarium-digital-thermometer-14914.html
UVB's
this one comes w/ a 5.0 bulb you want a 10.0 bulb posting the links
22" bulb https://joshsfrogs.com/sp/zoo-med-reptisun-10-0-uvb-fluorescent-t5-ho-bulb-22-24-watt-zmos524
you want the 24 watt 12 % bulb https://www.reptilebasics.com/t5-light-fixtures-kits/arcadia-prot5-uvb-kit-24-with-bulb/
or this one you will need to change the bulb out to the one posted above the Reptisun and you want the 24" or 2ft fixture https://hydrobuilder.com/sunblaster...mp.html?opts=eyJhdHRyaWJ1dGU5MDEiOiI2NjEwIn0=
post back on here when you get this and I will help you get it set up for the screen on the tank - that is going to determine where the UVB needs to go

We spritz her or drop it on her face and she licks it

We just got home with these items
Ok did you get the digital probe? Your screen looks to be a fine mesh can you post a pic of it from above please-- if it's a fine mesh like a screen door- it will need to be unobstructed placed directly above the basking decor 12-15 inches
