Hi and welcome...

Glad youre enjoying the little one so much . . . I see evryone has beaten me to everything, but I do agree with it all. Especially the butternut part for veggies. Mine LOVES it, and of course endive. She also took about 2-3 weeks before she would eat salads, then only a little at a time. Now she finishes her whole bowl (Took 2 months to get here) But keep offering.

Also for hydrating, you can put drops of wter on their nose, they then lick it off... Very cute

Hi there ! I'll address the Repti-Glo a bit. First, some "light" reading:
http://www.uvguide.co.uk/index.htm
Once you read through that, you may be thoroughly confused. That's okay.
What you want to pay attention to are the wave lengths from the bulbs, or tubes at how many inches.
The higher the wave lengths, and the closer to the animal, the greater the chances of eye issues, lack of appetite, as well as avoiding the basking site (where most of us make sure the uvb is shining down upon.)

If you must use the glos, then make sure to use a bright white light in conjunction with those tubes. The extra brightness tends to buffer the reptiles eyes a bit. Many people world wide have seen eye issues while using the 10.0 tube.
The longer those tubes remained, the worse the eye issues became.
Once those tubes were removed, the eyes had a better chance to return to normal on their own.
So. I personally feel that while the glo might be a product appropriate for other reptiles, it isn't for bearded dragons.. Again, this is the 10.0. The 8.0 as well as the 5.0 don't appear to effect dragons in this fashion.. In fact, the 8.0 was used and broadly for dragons back when they were the top of the line, and now remain for a fluorescent, second to the top under the reptiSun 10.0 here in the states.

Hope that helps out !
Ohhh Kiwi is just a bitty one isn't she! More photos please!

Thanks for the info!
Thats great to know c:
I have a 5.0 and if I ever upgrade Ill be sure to just go to a 8.0 bulb c:
Yea some bulbs are issues on the cam forums and I get the wave length thing too.
It a problem with chams. I believe its wave lengths under 300 that hurt their eyes.
Ill make sure to get some pics as soon as he warms up a bit c:
I just woke up to turn on their basking lights.

the 8.0 is no longer made and distributed.

you might check the UV Meter Boards for the latest up to date tests.

Janie, I'm trying to understand the problems cause by the Glo's too. Is it that the Glo's have high wavelengths of these bulbs that cause eye problems?

Basically in a nut shell (for chameleons at least im not sure if it applies to all reptiles) wave lengths under 300 are not naturally produced in natural uvb light and that is thought to be what cause the eye problems and also for coiled bulbs it can hurt their eyes because of all the concentrated uvb rays.

The problem tubes if I remember right, had something to do with the amount of phosphors used. Hagen, Inc stated that they changed things in the production of that tube.
I will admit, it isn't every 10.0 that recently caused issues.. only a handful.. and that number does seem to be reducing.

Hes been closing his eyes lately on his basking perch.
With my chameleon this is a bad sign because in the wild their alert and always awake during the day.
He still wont eat. I had to hand feed him crickets.
Is closing their eyes while basking normal?

Well just today.
I didnt notice it yesterday.
He does it right underneath his basking spot.
Im really concerned because in chameleons its not normal behavior...im sure it isnt with dragons either :c
He'll close them and bask but if I walk by, make a noise, call his name, ect he'll open them again.

That is fine. They do close their eye. Sometimes it is them just being relaxed. I wouldn't worry about it, as long as he doesn't do it all the time.

Great I also saw that the basking light might be too bright for him. I have a dimmer on it so I might try that too if it persists.

Are you using a regular household bulb? It shouldn't bother him? They actually do better with more lighting? What is the uvb that you are using?

well its was just something I read on here. The bulb isnt bright at all but I thought since hes smaller it might be a bigger deal?
Heres a pic of him.
He looks so skinny :c
I wanna fatten him up.
Hes been eating a bit so thats good.

I agree, he looks great!

There does seem to be a blueish tinge to it. It could be my computer, but thought I'd ask.

I see blue too. When I had one of those over priced reptile bulbs in it had a blue tint. What kind of basking light are you using?

Really?
When I pick him up his tummy have no curvage when you look down on him.
I was reading some where on this forum and it some one was talking about another dragon and said that was skinny.
Well no matter hes been eating like a pig lately c:
He jumps off his perch and runs over to where Iam and i shake the crix off and he devours them c:
He also LOVES to drink water.
He seems more relaxed then when I got him.
He falls alseep in the covers when I take him out close to his bed time <333

a zoo med light and the blueish color is his uvb light and prolly a mixture of my bad camera phone.
I dont use that infared or like "moonlight" crap on any of my reptiles lol.
