I am a bad momma :( Sunday she was climbing up the couch and I noticed a bit of red on her nail. I blew it off because she was given strawberries that morning. Well today I realized she hurt herself. The quick of the nail is red and there is a red spot at the base of the nail. I gave her a bath and put som triple antibiotic ointment on it. Is there anything else I should do?

I hope I can treat it at home. When she was little she snagged one of her back nails on something and lost it. I only realized it because it sorta grew back.

Poor Dex. Hope she pulls through ok. I hope it doesn't get infected. Try Betadine diluted with water to make it look like a weak tea.

When I checked it last night the quick was still real red and the area underneath was scabby. I put some more triple antibiotic ointment on it. I'll get some betadine. She's doing her morning stretches right now so she won't let me see her foot. She's walking on it so I think it's going to be okay.

When I use the Betadine mixture, am I just wiping it on her toe or do I try to soak her toe in it?

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm realizing it doesn't bother her as much as it does me. She's walking fine on it and even gripped my hand when I tried to put her to bed last night.

Well here's a good shot of it after her bath this morning. It hasn't gotten worse but not sure that it looks better :( It looks like she was close to ripping the whole thing off. Everything is intact, the toe isn't hanging I think that's a positive.

Tomorrow is Reptilefest at UIC. It's not a Fest where you can buy animals but rather to get information. I read that one of my local vets is putting their office bearded dragons up for adoption there. I'm going to look for them and maybe show them the picture and see what they say.

Just got back from the fest! They had a vet there and he told me that I need to keep her toe clean and if it starts looking worse then it's infected and she needs to be treated. He said it's not going to look better until she sheds the skin (which I guess makes a lot of sense) and it might take a few sheds for it to look completely better. The way Dexter sheds, it should look normal in about 3 years LOL! I feel better though.

I love that picture with a smile on her face. She really loves getting the spa treatment!

She really does. She's such a good girl. She just sits with her foot in it and closes her eyes, doesn't even try to drink the water.
