I have been having problems with both eyes for about 4 years now. I was told I had Thygeson's Disease. It is something that comes and goes but does not affect vision, it would just be an annoyance. Over the past 4 years I have noticed I have had some overall vision loss in my left eye, not much but some. Today I went to the eye doctor to get a new contact prescription and he kept asking me, where I grew up, have I ever been around chickens or bats? Then he looked at the scan of my eye and started again asking if I have been around chickens or bats. My scan showed a good amount of damage to the Ocular nerve. He said I have Ocular Histoplasmosis and over time I will go blind in my left eye and possibly my right eye too. This has been missed for 4 years and by other doctors. I am just happy he took the time to really look at my eye and find an answer for what is happening. Right now my right eye is still healthy but there is no telling when it too will be affected, it could be tomorrow, 20 years from now or never. I have to go see a specialist to see about treatment. The treatment will not restore vision loss but might keep it from getting worse. I will not know until I see the specialist. He also wants me to see the specialist for a second opinion to make sure that is what it is.
