Setting up a dubia colony (pics) - please adviseadvise

I've had a dubia colony for awhile now (from my mantis hobby...) and personally I never use heat pads, water bowl/food bowls. My setup method, keep it stupid simple. One large black tote filled with standing egg crates. The roaches will get their water from the food scraps you give them. (Such...

So I couldn't help myself... I rescued another baby from the dreaded chain corporation pet store (petsmart). Lol. Here's my newest and youngest. He's roughly a few weeks to a month old, still very tiny. Ain't he cuuuuuuuuute!

    Giant cave cockroaches.

They were actually gifted to me through a friend in the mantis hobby. I had bought some extra dubias for my colony and she included those in as a birthday gift. I've raised dubias, hissers , and lobster roaches in the passed. Time isn't really much of an issue with my dubia and hisser colonies...

    Giant cave cockroaches.

Hello forum, So I've been pretty successful with the raising and colonization of roaches.. now after dubias and hissers I'm looking to something else to add into my collection, but I'm also the type that when it comes to roaches, I will not keep them unless they can be of some use for my other...

Was doing great on Dubia, now he wants MEAL worms??

My male has been doing this too, now he only wants to eat superworms. He's even started to turn his nose to the junk food (waxworms).

    Basking spot not hot enough

You could use rocks to lift your basking zone a bit higher off the ground (thus closer to the heat) ... just an idea?

    Valkyrie and Victor.

Thank you! :) I'm a huge fan of my female, she's a sweetheart... though I love them both equally. I've always wondered what type my male was exactly. I have a good idea on my female. (Yellow citrus tigerstrip, I think...) Still kinda relatively new to reptilians with just under a year under my...

    Blow out, alternative?

I browse Amazon every so often if I don't feel up to making trips or if what I'm looking for isn't available around locally. Definitely will take a look though. That bulb shown in the photo only ran about 3 dollars, so really it's not a big deal. I'm sure I'll find use for it elsewhere. I just...

    Blow out, alternative?

My only problem is my location, as anything like a Lowe's, Menards, Ace hardware, petco, petsmart.. etc is over 40 miles away. So I'm usually stuck with a small town hardware store (with hardly any selection) or take that long haul into the city that I hardly have time for lol.

    Blow out, alternative?

Basking/ day time heat. I do see what you mean, luckily the bulb was cheap and only cost but a few dollars. I'll be picking up a holagen flood on Thursday. I just needed something to keep my temps up until then.
