Worried about my beardy... She doesn't seem to know when i have placed her food in her tank. I had to hand feed her tonight.

She looks thin in the picture but it could be the angle-- what are you using for a basking bulb brand -- and UVB these are critical to the eyes along w/ the rest of the health -- please go over everything -- if that is walnut shell substrate please get rid of it immediately-- walnut shell is toxic to dragons

She has always been on the thin side she was malnourished from previous owner I have had her almost 2 yrs. Our aquarium pet store recommended this substrate we have always used it on both beardies. O will change her uvb. It is about 3 months old or more. I love them so I want them healthy and happy. All advice is welcome.

Crushed Walnut Shells Should NEVER be used for bearded dragons---
Definitely do not used crushed walnut shell. It is much different than sand. Sand particles are naturally round and smooth while crushed walnut particles are sharp and jagged.

Crushed walnut was a popular substrate 15-20 years ago, until we started noticing much higher rates of impactions and deaths from intestinal damage from the dragons ingesting and trying to pass these sharp particles through their body which are not digestible at all.

Sand = smooth and passes through the system
Crushed walnut = sharp and cuts everything up as it passes through the system.

Not all long tube fixtures are good ones -- if you need links I can post some for you -- what are you feeding for a staple insect and how often? Is she getting supplements? I would get the substrate changed out if that is crushed walnut ---

Is this the right sand? And this is a better picture of her today. And the big boy Romeo. I will fix his too. He eats pinky mice and veg, with meal worms. she does occasionally eat a pinky but loves salads more

She is about 4 or 5.
Ok the sand is ok-- so the eyesight is she running into things? Can she catch her insects that your feeding? I am not a fine of pinky mice I have heard too many not so good things about them-- when you get the UVB please post back on here I will help you get it set up for the tank - your screen is going to determine where it goes -- not all UVB's are good so beware of what you buy--- you want a 24" fixture and a T5 bulb -- she looks good in the picture --

The basking bulb looks fine -- as long as your getting correct basking temps 95-100 I see the digital thermometer that is giving ambient temps not surface temps- I would invest in a probe for both tanks - I dont know what your using for a UVB can you please tell me what it is exactly
