We are relatively new owners of a 4 month old bearded dragon. Wellness check a month ago revealed coccidia and pinworms. Stool was malodorous at that time.
We treated with the appropriate medicaiton, two doses spaced 2 days apart for coccidia, and have given two doses of the pinworm medicaiton dosed every 14 days. Two doses left.
We emptied tank, threw away all decor items and mat. Washed tank by spraying with ammonia twice, then steam cleaned twice with hand held Bissel steam cleaner. Cleaned all care items (bowls, feeding forceps, etc) with ammonia. Kept him in a 20 gallon quarantine tank for one week while treating until stool normalized.
He seemed to recover, with normal well-formed stool. Has always behaved normally throughout it all. Very energetic, runs around at feeding time, jumps on decor, etc.
Yesterday right after feeding, he had a watery diarrhea stool, with a drop of redness. We have a call out to Vet, but just wondering what we are doing wrong, and how to get to the point where we are enjoying our pet and not constantly dealing with this. Any guidance? Does this definitely mean reinfection? Thanks.
