The life of a bearded dragon

My female bearded dragon Zuri has always had issues shedding as far as shed becoming stuck. We have taken her to the vet before for this thinking it could be yellow fungus since her legs were turning black and her underside was yellow. The vet had said it was not yellow fungus and was able to get most of her stuck shed on. However now she is having the same issues but on her tail. For the life of me I can not get this shed off if it even is stuck on shed. We plan on taking her to the vet yet again but i was wondering if there was anything I could try in the mean time since it is the weekend the vet won't be open until Monday and lord knows how far out they are booking. I have tried bath after bath and I have tried sprays which previously I have had really good luck with but now are not working. I have read you can use hydrogen peroxide?

You can try hydrogen peroxide as long as there is no open wound. Or you can try rather thin-layer of oil over the shed. I prefer coconut oil.

I love coconut oil for so many reasons. It will moisturise both the live and dead skin. Which will make it easier for the dead skin to separate from the live. It soaks in. You will probably find that multiple applications for a period of time will be the most effective. Give your little guy mini massages.

That is a larger issue. While it may not be one of the various problems known as yellow fungus (CAN-V) it is not simply stuck shed. That level of discolouration is indicative of something more problematic. Is there another vet you could get a second opinion from?

The vet we previously took her to sent some pictures to a specialist about 2.5 hours away from where I live at UW Madison and he didn't think it was yellow fungus, he had said there would be swelling, she wouldn't be nearly as active and she would have a deep yellowing. There are not many options for reptile vets were I live. We are taking her to a semi close vet we have taken previous reptiles to who has been a vet longer than I have been alive he is about 45 mins away, so definitely not as bad at 3 hours. For now I have been very constant on baths and we use a product that has worked wonders in the past called Repti-Shed I believe Zoo Med makes it and it seems to be loosening whatever it is up a little bit, but definitely no where near where it should be.

You can try the repti shedding aid (it's a spray) give your beardie a spray and try to help the skin off with a soft Q-tip

It's not really possible to diagnose fungal infections from pictures, no matter the level of expertise. While it may not be yellow fungus, the discoloration and scale damage, along with the repeated nature of the problem, suggests a more thorough treatment. Glad to hear you have another vet who is able to give you a second opinion.

Applying coconut oil....is this something that can/should be done for happy, healthy dragons?

Its not something that should be necessary, but can be done without issue.

Misskatie, see that spot on the left hip that is discolored? That is scale damage and it has a cause that needs addressing. Your vet should be able to run a culture from that area to determine what type of infection you are dealing with. Its unlikely that this will stop happening though until that is addressed.

Can I ask what your temperatures are like in your enclosure? And what type of lighting? You may want to bump up your temps for a bit to help your dragons immune function
