My boyfriend has a bearded dragon and we were wondering if this was tail rot. It's been this way for about a week, and we both are really worried that it is and we need to know asap if we should take her to the vet. please help us!

Can't tell for sure from the pic that you posted. A close up pic might be better but it does appear that there is an injury at least to the tip of the tail that needs some attention. That and the darkened bands near the wound would say to me that your best move would be to get the dragon to the vet to have a closer look taken at it. It could mean that there is more extensive damage to the tail and if it is developing tail rot immediate attention and treatment is need.
Call your vet and get an appointment.

Hope that helps and keep us updated!
Enjoy!!

Thanks for the help! she's been shedding alot lately so we are thinking that she might be just shedding everything again. She is as active and playful (or even more) then ever so we're happy she isn't in pain. she's been having green watery fecal mater, but we think that may because she eats nothing but her 'salads' of collard greens and a few wax worms for treats every few days. We're going to call around for a good vet for a good price so we hope we can get this resolved soon

Hi Nad, it is always best to get a vet opinion.

His tail does not look like tail rot. It actually looks semi fresh and would recommend you keeping A) his cage clean and B) the wound clean. Cage cleaning is self explanatory. To clean the wound it is very easy also. Get soem provodone iodine from the drug store. Dilute the provodone iodine with bottled or other sanitary source of water to resemble a mild tea solution. Soak the tip (wound) of his tail in this for atleast 5 minutes and would recommend a 15 minute twice a day regimen.

If you feel the need. You can also apply a dab of polysporin on the wound for the first couple days.

Yep I agree with Gilliesexotics now that you added that your dragon has been shedding a lot recently which you hadn't posted originally. I would add too that you need to keep a close eye on the wound while treating for it to make sure that it is healing. If there are any signs it is not or that it is getting worse then do have it check by your vet.
Enjoy!
