My vet sent me home with large q tips and lubricant jelly so that I can help her poop as the vet has several times. My dragon is constipated due to the pain medication from the vet due to her fracture legg because she jumped off a chair in out living room a few months back and x rays showed a fracture. A while afterwards she wasn't going to the bathroom so we brought her back to the vet which she is their alot because we cannot seam to get rid of her worms. Pinworm. Yes husbandry us all correct iv been reading all your posts, and freaking out when I came to read several posts that states your bearded dragon can die due to helping them poop manually. Is this true? My vet does it then sent me home with the tools to do it...my dragon is almost always sick

Your lighting uvb and surface basking temps are crucial in the dragons health- please NO coils for uvb surface basking temps should be taken w/ a digital probe thermometer- No stick ons please - let's start there- feed plain canned pumpkin that will help her go to the bathroom and make sure she's hydrated

Yes i have been giving her canned pumpkin and prune all organic baby food. But what is the answer to the q tip and lubricant? And the lights are all correct. We did extremely thorough research before getting a bearded dragon and we have now had her for 1 year.

She shouldnt be having issues going to the bathroom if all is on par w/ the surface basking temps and UVB - the UVB needs to be properly placed for the screen on the tank -- if its on the screen that screen will block approx 30% of the UV rays --- digestion starts w/ the surface basking temps being on par -- I am assuming the lubricant and Q tip thing is for a enema but not sure -- they are NOT recommended and like I said you should not be having to do this all the time -- is the dragon not going to the bathroom at all and is impacted? What is the diet please ? Yes a dragon can die if giving an enema -- we NEVER recommend those at all and suggest natural laxatives like the canned pumpkin etc --------- how is the dragon getting water?

She is not impacted. The vet told me she is constipated. She went on her own twice on the last few weeks, but small
I have a uvb meter and a infrared thermometer. The vet goes over husbandry and lighting every time we are in the vet, it is all correct it is just that our dragons preferences are to stay on the cooler side. She doesn't like the heat and the vets says that the dragon knows what she needs. Her diet is dandelion greens, collard greens and occasionally red and green cabbage and red peppers some times a tini bit of celery and other approved greens every now and then a blueberrie and I have a dubie roach colony and she gets them every 3 days 4 to 7 dubies and 2 super worms. She is offered greens daily but rarly takes them so I usually blend it up in a smoothie with water and give it to her in a syringe and she takes it that way. We are taking care of her to the best of our abilities, like I said we are regularly at the vet. We fell in love with her instantly. Reading this, even though I only found it yesterday has been very helpful so I appreciate it, however like I said she is at the doctor office more than ant other animals I have ever had my concerns mostly was with the forced pooping her. I would never do anything at all to intentionally harm her so if this is something I should never do I won't and that is my question. I am taking her to the vet regularly she cannot seam to get rid of her pinworm that she has had seince we bought her and we are now going to be seen a second ver for a second option. Nothing against our vet it's just we can't seam to get rid of the worms. My question is just is it safe to force poop her or was I giving the wrong advice? I will never do that again or let my vet do it ever again if it is harmful to her.

The basking bulb your using is it a solid clear bright white bulb or is it a off white yellowish hue or daytime bulb? No colored please-- I am gonna have Tracie our vet tech advise here- please no more green cabbage - what meds has the dragon been on and are you disinfecting w/ something like F10 -- rescue? Or deep cleaning w/ steam? It sounds like she's reinfecting herself- I have sent your post to Tracie she's on late at night

I believe she is reinfecting herself too. I will stop immediately with green cabbage. On her window in my room she has mercy vapor bulb 100 w 18 inches away. Her cage is 100 w clear no color on anything. She isn't being given any medication for worm at this time the vet wants to get her constipation under control 1st. Her pain medication is meloxidyl 0.1ever other day and for her constipation 0.1 it's called lactuiose
She also has a 76 watt halogen heat lamp in her enclosure made for reptiles.
She has also been going ro sleep early. So she has the bar 2 heat and the bright light that I call the sun I can send another picture

Your not getting accurate surface basking temps- the ones you have are giving ambient temps only -- you want one w/ a probe -- IR guns are good for spot checking but do not read off of certain basking materials and can give false readings - the probe is the most accurate -- I would get rid of the sand mat ? and get some textured NON adhesive shelf floor liner its going to be able to disinfect better or use paper towels so you can throw it out every time she poops --- cut the liner to the size of the tank and clean w/ vinegar/ water 50-50 but invest in some F 10 sold on Ebay its a concentrate and it will kill anything in that tank -- take out only a few basking pieces that can be cleaned if she poops on them until she is clear of the parasites -- the basking bulb looks to be a solid clear bright white bulb -- the MVB is good for heat but not really good for UVB so the UVB in the tank what is the distance to the basking decor piece and what is the brand and bulb and how old is it ?

This has been excellent and I love this site I am so excited to be apart of it! Wendsday cannot come soon enough to take my baby girl to the exotic pet specialist for a second option. I truly do like the vet we have chosen I jist would like to get a second option due to the fact she has has the same issues her entire life. Just to recap:
I am to never let anyone force poop her, correct?
Purple cabbage is fine? Correct? I need to buy the F 10 from the vet? Correct? Because I did find it on ebay it's a large jug for 40$ and on wendsday when we are in vegas I will stop at petco and get a new digital probe thermometer. And yes I will ditch the reptile carpet if that's what it is. We have changed her enclosure several times due to the pinworm and just trying to find what works best for her. She loves to dig and we will toss all of this sand and clay again and get more again she seams to enjoy it. She doesn't poop in her cage. She never has. However we will toss what is in their now and clean it again and get new sand. Just want ro make sure I got all the correct information needed and again thank you

Thank you. She is 1 year and 5 months old we bought her on November 2nd of last year and they told us she was 4 to 6 months of age at time of purchase. That would be aussome. All information will be greatly appreciated. Obviously we will be purchasing all new items for enclosure. We will be keeping wood and bark but we will be cleaning it again but yes all information is helpful. I was never told sand was not good for baby dragon she was started off on sand. However she has had xrays 3 times now and no impaction. She loves to dig herself into the sand for nite nite time. I would hate to take that from her. We sift it before putting it into her enclosure. And mix it with the clay and the Australian sand. I already tossed once again for this week her smoothie. Tomorrow I plan on only mixing collard green, red pepper, cilantro, basil, one grape, and dandelion greens un her smoothie with some probiotics and some water. That is all still fine?

http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html ignore the kale info its outdated and a good staple feeder - we want her eating on her own - salads - the sand is fine for her if you want to keep her on it or you can use a dig box in the tank w/ what your using and use the textured NON adhesive shelf liner for the tank - its up to you- sorry I meant you dont need a script for the F 10 and if she is still having parasites my guess they are harboring in the sand -- I have sent the post to Tracie again -- she needs to weigh in on the meds for the parasites etc ---

I will order the F10 from the ebay then today. I am hoping the new vet on wendsday will give us medicine for the pinworm. Also I am ordering all new sand/ clay sand today so that when it all comes in we can clean her enclosure agin. I was reading on some other posts that while their dragons were on medicine they kept them in a ," quarantine " type situation. It that what we should do with ours too? Clean the cage with the F10 when it comes in, just put down paper towl and a basking spot while she is on the medicine? When medicine is finished after another poop analyzation, then we clean enclosure agin, then we set up for her to her liking with the sand, bark ,sticks, ect. I just want to do this correctly as this issue has gone on her entire life.

Does she currently have pinworms? I am assuming she does- if she does take the sand / clay out use paper towels so you can disgard the poop - if she is pooping on the decor you will need to sanitize the decor every time she poops on it - I took mine out sprayed it down in the sink let it sit for 10 mins w/ the F 10 - rinsed it and put it back in the tank - the tank itself spray it down w/ the F 10 let sit for 10 min or so then wipe it out -- there is no odor w/ this or at least I have never been able to smell it

I will do all of this, however she has never once poop in her enclosure. She is out alot and even if she is in enclosure she makes it known she wants to come out then poops once she is out. Only one time in the year we have had her didnshe poop inside I believe it was because we wernt home. I work from hone so I am with her all the time. Is she wants ourlt, whe comes out she is #1 however I still plan to do everything you have instructed. If she doesn't poop inside the enclosure does this mean the parasites are not inside the enclosure? Just a question I fully intend in sanitizing everything just curious are they only in her enclosure if she poop or is it more of they are whenever she is? Like I said she poops outside her enclosure only.

Where ever she is pooping it needs to be disinfected-- if she is sitting on furniture outside the enclosure and shes pooping there disinfect it - I am not sure how she is reinfecting herself if she is pooping outside the enclosure- this is odd --- Tracie needs to advise here
