Hey,

My wife and I recently adopted a bearded dragon that was found in someone's backyard. The vet estimated him between 2-2.5 years old. He's in good health. We've set up his enclosure so he's got different places to hang out on and have some privacy if needed.

We are consistently researching different ways to help him acclimate to his new home. We understand there is stress in that and so we handle him away from the other animals and only for a few minutes here and there. We are trying to get him used to us.

Some days he's better about it than others. Any pointers with helping us with this would be greatly appreciated. We want him to enjoy being held and being around us.

We have also noticed that at night he seems to glass surf a lot and seems stressed. We think it's because he sees his reflection in the glass, but we don't know how to stop this other than turning the lights off.

We are new beardie parents and we just want our baby boy to live his best life.

Congratulations! Looks like a sweetie. You are doing the right thing being consistent and keeping it short. It can take a while, so just keep at it. You can offer him a treat when you take him out so he associates coming out with something positive.

One thing you can do to cut down the reflection is to put up background cling.

HTH!

Agree with above. Only way to get them used to you is to handle them and let them figure out you're not a threat. I have also heard of taking a shirt that you've worn and putting it in where they sleep to get used to the smell of you. Not sure how well it works, but worth a try.
