Ready for sand???

So just a little update. He dig's in the sand and seems to like it but....he has only pooped in the tank once since I put that sand in there. I think he did it that time because he had held it for like 2 days. He hold's out for a bath. Since he's shedding his front legs today he'll get to poop in the tub

As long as you as you are not seeing a lot of sand in his poop then I wouldn't be concerned. Beardies sometimes go for a few days without pooping. As long as his lights and temps are good and he is eating you can bet he will poop in time even without a bath but the warm bath helps stimulate his bowels to move and will help his shed too so I would call that a Win-Win thing indeed!

I just gave him a bath and almost all the skin came off his front feet and he pooped. I've been bathing him every other day since he has so much shed happening. After that though he's going to have to poop in his tank lol.

I have to say it was kinda funny at first but then I seen the rock drop a little so I pulled him out and filled the sand back in. Now he's right back to doing it again and is halfway under the rock. This is what Slice is working on this morning.

I have been thinking about putting a sand area in Sunkiss' tank, but I'm not sure I want to put sand in the whole tank. My question is: should I put the sand box on the warm or cool side of the tank?

@Sunkiss....you really need to either choose all sand or no sand...dragons will dig and kick and push sand everywhere and it will be a lot of work to try and keep clean...constant work...so tryin to add a "sand box" is not really a good idea.

I am almost sure you will be sorry for putting a sand box in your enclosure. Getting in and out of it, along with their digging, the sand does not stay in the box or area long & is all over the enclosure, making it always look dirty & untidy. It is generally all sand or no sand.

I have seen some elaborate setups, a painstakingly setup a beach like area that was absolutely gorgeous aesthetically to the human eye, but removed within a matter of days, for this reason, the sand doesn't stay where you originally put it . Just a heads up!

Thanks guys. I currently use non-adhesive shelf liner and sometimes repti carpet. I think she might really like the sand, so I think we will be changing in the near future.

So as for his second attempt....he got about halfway under that rock and got stuck. So now first thing tomorrow i'll have to bury that rock down in the sand. I don't want to come home to a dead lizard with a broken back. Obviously he LOVES digging in his sand. I would recommend it Sunkiss. It's a pretty easy clean up too. I have taken one of my strainer's with very small holes and made it just for his tank. Once a week or so i'll sift through to clean out scattered greens and maybe left over pieces of poop. I should have saved the pic for the contest shoot!!

What a hoot your little beardie is....dig dig dig!! I wouldn't recommend a 'sandbox'....go for the entire tank. I did that and my Spike loves it. I had slate tile when he was younger but now his entire tank is sand and it works well and easy to clean up!!
