Hello, Poncho. Completely normal. They call it thermoregulating and they will gape from time to time when the heat is great. They're also lazy when it comes to basking. Now, if there were constant gaping, gasping, mucous in the mouth, wheezing, 'Coughing' it would be a sign of a respiratory infection.

I agree with Noella. A little bit of saliva is normal in the mouth.
