Hello all, not been on here for a while however all is not well, we lost our beardie last week, bad times, we have purchased another one yesterday but it appears to have an attitude problem, a lot of hissing, puffing and mouth open behaviour when he/she is approached, due to our original beardie being adopted at 18 months old we’ve never had a baby one, everything in his tank is in order so was wondering maybe relocation stress, any advice appreciated, thank you

Thank you, the new one is approximately 2 months old. I forgot to put in the original post, fingers crossed it’s only temporary

Sorry for your loss. :( Never easy losing a baby. I agree with Avery. Let baby adjust and hopefully he'll calm down. I know Dex was very skittish the first week. Not really aggressive, but definitely not feeling secure and comfortable. It took him a good week before he didn't flatten and try to hide when I came near his tank.

Thank you, I think that this sounds like the thing to do, he doesn’t bite when I put blueberries in his mouth even though he’s hissing, the shop I bought him from have advised exactly the same thing so hopefully given time all will be well.

Sooo cute. Luv the smile. :) Virtual hugs for your loss.

I adopted Seymore as a juvenile/young adult from a woman who said she didn't have time for him anymore. He didn't look the greatest when I got him, but after a few weeks he was looking a lot better. Then rapid decline. I took him to a reptile vet who after two visits sent me to a specialist. The specialist discovered a large tumor the size of a red grape on his left hemipene. She couldn't guarantee survival during or after surgery and he was in considerable pain and stress. It was heartbreaking, but I opted to euthanize rather than have him suffer anymore. I still miss him, though Dex is filling the hole in my heart Seymore left.

Babies take time and patience- the hissing running and puffing is normal- you need to let him adjust to his surroundings and trust is a big thing- work w/ him by hand feeding worms or salad- put a piece of cloth or blanket fleece works good w/ your smell on it stick it in his hide- get your hands in his tank as much as possible- I hope you sanitized your tank good after your last dragon passed- do you know why he passed

The cage was fully sanitised and cleaned out, we think it was mbd as he lost the use of his back legs and serious twitching, we’ve since discovered he was unfortunately fed on kale and spinach till the age of 2 due to bad advice, time patience is key here as you say I think

Ok kale is good spinach not so much- what are you using for a UVB? Please NO Coils-- they are inadequate!

30w reptisun 10.0 t8 at the minute, I will be upgrading to t5 when bitey has settled that was the reason for my original post, although my current uv is Suitable for my set up I just feel an upgrade to t5 can’t hurt given the better uv output

Yes just make sure your basking decor is 6-8 inches directly under the basking bulb- then the T 5 can go to 12-15 inches-- the T 8 needs to be replaced in 6 months-- the T 5 one year- so just be patient good lighting and basking temps will keep him healthy--- keep working w/ him

Everything is all as it should be so no worries there, just need to decide what brand uvb to go for the reptisun 10 or the Arcadia 12

The Arcadia 12 is a good bulb - I have one in one tank now and a Reptisun 10 T 5 in another- I couldn't get the Arcadia's here a while back everyone was sold out-
