This is Norbert, our 4 year old loves Harry Potter, our young beardie. I am an old hand at owning bearded dragons but have been out of the practice for a bit. Norbert is around 3 months old and is about 8 inches long. He was the last of a litter of 19 and has some battle scars to show for it; nipped tail, missing the end to a toe, etc. He is eating mostly dubia roaches with the occasional meal worm or super. He tolerates greens, yellow squash, carrots and some other veggies.
We started with the classic terrarium setup which included reptile carpet, water dish, and the like. After doing lots of research into what their habitat looks like in the wild I felt like we were creating a very unrealistic habitat. Look up bearded dragon wild habitat and tell me it looks like a tank with green carpet. I came across the Bio Dude's website and ordered his terra saharra tank setup. It seems like Norbert is far more at home and active in his new environment. It also looks a lot closer to the scrub of Australia where these guys are from. The terrarium has 4 live plants, soil closer to a peat moss consistency, leaves, dried moss, some biological bacteria culture that breaks down waste. It's explained on the website in much better detail.
I guess time will tell if this is a good long term setup for our little guy.
