Hi just a quick update he is getting insects everyday but he’s still isn’t eating veggies. It’s prob been more than a month and he hasn’t touched them. I’ve tried countless types of greens and other veggies but he’s to picky I guess. He doesn’t like bsfl and the silkworms sticking to it gets him maybe a piece or 2 of greens. Do I just continue giving him lots of insects or is there a better solution, I’ll obviously I’ll put out veggies anyway but yeah.
he definitely gained a little weight he looks less skinny so that’s something I’m keeping my eye on very closely. Thank you

Hey not sure if I should be starting a new thread for this lol just was wondering if anyone had any advice. He gained some weight and i got him nice and rehydrated which was all nice but he started to enter brumation. He does this every year for almost 6 months, I live in New Jersey and it’s starting to get cold here, I keep his terrarium to a good temp on both sides and the room it’s in has a heater that maintains 72° so not sure how he even knows it’s getting cold outside . I’ve taken him to the vet in the past, I’ve ask countless people and the conclusion is to just let him despite it not being the best health wise. The reason why I say that is because this is why he gets dehydrated and lost so much weight, from all this sleeping he does every year, I’ve tried waking him up at points for food or some warmth but he just goes right back into his hide. My main question is how to I keep him healthy and hydrated if there’s a way I would gladly do it, or is there a way to show him that he doesn’t need to be brumating. Idk exactly what the best move is for him if anyone has any advice I’d be very grateful! Also do we think his hide is to small I’ll attach a photo.

Thank you!

Get him out every 2 weeks for water -- get a weight on him at that time kitchen scale weigh in grams - its not uncommon for them to lose weight but you dont want him losing so much your having to struggle to get it back on -
I would turn lights on and off as you do regularly so they can keep time frames - if hes not healthy going into brumation then it is not a good idea that he not go into brumation - that we would need to consult Tracie the vet tech on the board-- also he should not be brumating for 6 months -- 3 at most

Thank you for your response. So I got a fecal sample a month ago and it came back clear so we’re good there. I read these articles they were very informative. I’ll weigh him and give him a bath every 2 weeks for hydration and to encourage a poop since he did eat a lot before going to sleep. As far as his health he’s hydrated and gained a nice amount of weight. He still hasn’t touched veggies in months besides the occasional sweet potato but he eats tons of insects. I would really prefer not bringing him into the vet for a checkup as they charge at least $250 for an exotic vet at least by me. I do always bring him in if he does have signs of any illness but that’s not the case here. He has always brumated for 5-6 months nothing ive tried has ever got him to do less time, at like month 4 I’ve tried to remove his hide but he just goes to sleep under a different rock. He does this interesting thing at months 4-6 where he’s in like half brumation, he sleeps for 5 days then comes out to bask for a couple hours, will eat a little then go back to sleep for another 5 days and do this cycle till he’s ready to wake up.

Thats called semi brumation and its normal - mine have never fully gone into full brumation its always been sleep a week come out and bask I offer food and water and then he will go back to another week of sleeping- - you can keep his lights off for the amount of 3 months offering water every couple of weeks then at month 3 then I would flip the lights on and see if that doesnt arouse him to come out --
