Surface basking temps of 105-110 taken w/a digital probe thermometer for a baby - 6 months of age --- UVB needs to be a long tube fixture--- there are 3 good ones that are recommended -- NO coils --- he should be basking most of the time and if hes not something is off --- basking bulbs need to be a solid clear bright white bulb NO off white NO yellowish and NO daytime bulbs -- its good hes eating but w / him not basking it wont be long and he wont be eating--- these things I mentioned are crucial to the over all health of the dragon and their behavior --- please get rid of the loose substrate and invest in some textured NON adhesive shelf liner --- easy to clean and more sanitary -- vinegar / water 50/50 solution wipe down w/ a dish cloth / towel -- if you need more help please ask for links to lights etc --- please get your tank on par

Where is your T 5 screen determines where the uvb is placed and distanced

Ok I noticed your using a Rept Zoo fixture -- are you using the Repti zoo bulb? If so please change it out for a better quality bulb like a Reptisun 10.0 or a Arcadia 12% bulb ---- this could be a reason why hes hiding --- please make sure your basking decor piece is 8-10 inches directly over the basking decor --- get it swapped out and then lets see what his behavior does
