Not sure if you do it twice a day couple days they should soften- make sure your distance is 12-15 inches I recommend 13" -

Canned pumpkin is people food. Every grocery store sells it. You'll find it in the baking aisle. People use it to make pumpkin pie.

You can also get some baby food prunes to feed as well unsweetened applesauce
