Hi,ive had my beardie since i was very young and she hasnt recieved good care her entire life so id like to get that out of the way. at one point in her life she barely got any uvb.
today i picked her up and she threw up on me. she hadnt drank water recently or eaten. about an hour later i saw the same stuff she puked bubbling out of her nose. the puke was mostly clear with a brown fluid in it.
what do i do besides take her to the vet?
i read a forum posting similar to this the person took their beardie to the vet and it turned out to be a fatty liver. the treatment was no meals just juice for a week. i dont think im necessarily having the same issue but it seemed similar.
i will be absolutely heart broken if my beloved bearded dragon spike succumbs to this illness and i dont know ill be able to take her to the vet.
her vivarium was infested with black widows so shes been living in my room with a lamp above a plate, so she couldve eaten something in my room or outside.(obviously very unideal)
what can i and what should i do?
So sorry to hear about your Beardie. The Beardie needs a vet asap. But for now let’s work on several changes/fixes. Remove any sand or coconut substrate from the tank & use white paper towels or white terry cloth towels as the substrate; all that sand is ingestible. She needs to be in the tank. May I ask how the tank is infested with Black widows???? The tank needs to be inside the house, is it in the garage? burn the tank in hot water and clean it cuz she needs to be in her tank. Is it big Enuff? Should be 40gallon minimum but 120 if she’s an adult. She needs a Zoomed clear basking bulb for heat & the Reptisun 10.0 T5 for Uvb. The length u order should cover 70 percent of the tank. The uvb also needs replacing every 6Mnths. UVB light needs to be 10inches minimum away from the Beardie and the heat lamp can be closer but at least 8inches away. For now, a warm bath to get her to poop watever is inside her. Luke warm water in dechlorinated water (buy reptisafe if u don’t have a filter system) for 15min minimum. Rub her belly gently downwards. Baths should be given twice/week always & more when shedding. Also, place a small bowl of water in the tank for drinking everyday and remove all food and water from the tank at nite for bedtime. Also, u cannot feed a Beardie anything bigger than the space between her 2eyes. Don’t feed Hornworms, meal worms or superworms if she is overweight/fatty liver disease. Do crickets & Dubias & plates of fresh veggies/greens. Meal worms are the worst for Beardies Same with pellets or bottled food. AlAs far as food? What are you feeding her? Never ever so bottled food or pellets. Do crickets and Dubias only and a plate of fresh greens and veggies cut them up so they are not too high and not too small. Best everyday greens especially if she has fatty liver Disease and in general is: mustard greens, dandelions, collard greens, yellow squash, butternut squash, endives, green beans & snap peas. Do 2-3 of each and mix it; mustard greens and yellow squash for sure. Also never wver feed unless she’s been basking for an hour or two and last meal they need 2 hours of lights on to digest the food. Also in the winter keep both lights on for 10-12 hours more like 10 & in the summer 12-14 hours more like 14. They have more energy in the summer. Hope this helps & find a good reptile vet asap.
