My beardie is a 'runt'....

I have always thought that Spike was 'small' for his age....which I think is about 5 months. He is only 9.5 inches long from nose to his 'stubb' of a tail. He has a belly on him so I don't know what he weighs. His temps are good....I monitor them all the time. He eats whenever he is in the mood which means not every day but I don't worry about it. I feed him crickets and mealies. He sort of eats greens but isn't very good about it. Am I doing everything right and just have a 'runt'?? I don't give him vitamins and he doesn't get a whole lot of calcium....just on the crickets and greens. Thanks

I don't know why you are so concerned & think that he is so small & so weird all the time? 9.5" & likely missing a couple of inches of tail, would put him in the 11"-12" range & there is nothing wrong with that at 5 months. All BDs grow at different rates, some have their growth spurts later than others & Spike's size sounds very normal to me. The only thing that I can see that may be wrong with Spike is that he has an overly worrisome Mom ;) :). Which is not necessarily a bad thing :)

Try measuring to the beginning of the tail, darlin, not the end. There's no way for us to judge how long the stub is and round abouts how much might be missing. What I meant was from the nose to the end of the body, so what would be the vent on the other side.

Teehee. Us mommies get a little nutty at times.

Ok....I worry, a little bit, that I may not be doing something right. But with the help of this forum I think I am on the right track. IMHO....beardies behavior is a little weird when you have never had one and used to dogs all your life..... Anyway....I will continue doing what I am doing and enjoy the little boy that has an attitude!! :D

That is good....so I can have hope for the little boy!! I would rather have a dragon on the small side than a 'big' boy!! Have a great day!!

I finally measured Spike yesterday. He is 4.5 inches long from tip of nose to beginning of tail. He eats when he wants, doesn't like greens, i try to keep him hydrated, temps are good, has a big good belly, poops everyday etc etc. I think I just have a runt... and that is ok....
