Mouth rot or yellow fungus help

Update after second vet appt. I liked the new vet much better, she had more experience and more thorough. She is not convinced it's yellow fungus which she was a terrible disease that she had seen before. She thinks it's a dermatitis from an ear infection. She gave me a low dose antibiotic to administer every other day. She told me he looked really good and strong besides the infection.
I gave Mr Rogers his first dose today and he had a very bad reaction. He went limp and lifeless and appeared to stop breathing for a couple minutes. He started breathing after I returned home to his basking area. He defecated and vomited up his kale leaf breakfast, he is also is not active or interested in crickets. I reported the reaction to the vet, waiting for a call back they told me to discontinue use. It's been a rough day for all of us. Poor little guy, hope he is on the mend soon!

OMG, poor thing. I'm glad you liked the vet better and she doesn't think it's YF. I wonder what happened with the antibiotics though, hope they call back soon. I think that it's normal not to want to eat on antibiotics. Ask the vet it if would be wise to also give a probiotic or plain organic soy yogurt, something to help the gut flora take on the harsh medicine. I know some people do this in older dragons I don't know if it's safe for a baby though.

Great suggestion with the probiotics! I will ask tomorrow. He ate three crickets tonight, our little trooper! Vet didn't know how to explain his reaction but suggested keeping with the abx on Friday. She said this time try the meds on a cricket. Maybe it's just me but his discoloration seemed to look better already. I think he's gong to pull thru

Sad news. Mr. Rogers past away this morning. He will be remembered fondly forever in our hearts. Thank you for all your support, kind words and prayers. We held a short service and buried him under a homemade head stone by our stream. Rest in peace little guy.

Thank you for your condolences and support through this illness. I am convinced he did have yellow fungus, I've read that anti biopics often make it worse, and that's just what happened. We will be taking this experience up with the pet store very soon. It's so sad to have had our new family member for so short of a time. We truly cared for that little guy and after our hearts mend we will be trying again. Our four year old son is handling the loss very well (better than me). Beardies are awesome family pets and we hope to have better luck next time around.

Yea unfortunately antibiotics are pretty hard on the little ones especially :( YF is a tough one and the incubation period can be 2-5 weeks

I know just how fast they get into our hearts no matter the time with us we love them and Mr. Rogers was loved.. We are here for ya when ever you get another scaly friend baby baby ones can be hard maybe a bit older one would good and really check them out beforehand. (even though Mr Rogers may not have looked different)

We have definitely learned a lot from this experience, my heart aches but it will heal in time. I'm so relieved our son is taking it well. He said how much he missed his little friend after nap today, so cute! My hubby has been awesome by calling the pet store to handle that and by finding a local breeder that sells 8-10" Beardies. I think getting an older one is a good idea. See y'all back in the forums soon. Thanks again gals

Awe that's sweet. I'm happy to hear that you all are looking at another. A juvie is a good way to go, not all pet stores are bad just gotta look around and look for the smaller stores I know I go to 1 for my waxworms and they have babies on up to 2 and 3 year olds and they looked great (but I already had Izzy or I would have bought there) hold them, look at them (give them a good look over) juvies can be very active.
Keeping all of you in my thoughts! Hope to see you soon.
