hi all.
my namea Penny and i have two beaded dragons Diego and Boris. i have been on this forum b4 but not for a while. but i need sum help.....
so to cut a very very long story short. we took Diego to see a vet because he was rapidly loosing weight. he still eats very well and was very active first i thought mbd coz i read that can make ur beadie loose weight quick but he get all his vits n mins n calc n uvb he needs?? so we where very confused. so the vet trip... we took hom to a reptile specialist and firstly he asked us Diegos age wich we told him he was 4. he looked at us very confused and told us he isnt he is at least 7-8. he had a good look at him asked lots of questions about him then told us he has liver failure he sed its sumthing he will have always had but now he is getting old its getting worse all the inside of diggys mouth is yellow and he doesnt pass much wen he goes the toilet the vet told us there is nothing we can do to help. he assured us he isnt in any pain and will just pass peacefully.... now bak to my problem we have got up this morning and he has lost the use of his bak legs. is this just sumthibg that happens with liver failure or is this sumthing we neex another trip to the vet for??? plz help x

If he's eating well and not popping much does he strain while pooping? could he be a bit blocked up? as I now being constipated/impacted can cause temp paralysis..How about some nice warm soaks. You can add in some Dandelion and alfalfa powder supplements as they help detox and support the liver..
Did the vet run bloodwork to check his organ functions? How about any xrays to see if he's got a blockage causing the back legs..
If he is indeed 7-8 he is getting up there but if husbandry are good and he's been healthy they can live longer..

he doesnt struggle to poo or strain theres just no much there wen he does and its alway very watery. he gets bathed every day because of his watery poos they go all over his feet. i dnt think he is impacted he has had a poo already today.
the vet told us he would get weak and struggle ti move but would his bak end go??

he gets a bowl full of salads n fruits daily and we feed him locus a couple of times a weeks vets told us to stay away from fatty live foods and meal worms because he will find it hard to digest them. they bin loose for a few months now. vet sed that the loose poo was normal for a beardie with liver failure.

so I've bin watching Diego over the past couple of days... its no thay he cant move his back legs it seems he just struggles too... he is really thin and his fat pads r all completely gone now.. we was told this would hapoen by the vet i just hate it. he still eats plenty but because his liver isnt fuctioning he doesnt keep hold of any goodness. so im guessing if any ine can help... that he just weak maybe... but he srill holds his body up to bask... but he also spends a lot more of the day lay flat... my por boy i feel utterly helpless.

OH PENNY, I'm so sorry to hear this about our boy Diego :(

I don't know much about liver failure but I do know that some dragons have a naturally yellow mouth, so without doing a blood test to test his liver/kidney enzymes I don't know how he could be sure it's liver failure.

the reptile specialist we went to c also had a rescue centre for reptiles for ppl who no longer wanted or could care for them. he told us there was another 2 beardies that he had been given had the same thing he sed he could of done blood tests but would have cost a lot of money when he was certain thats its liver failure. he told us there isnt anything we can do for him n he isnt in any pain he will just become weaker. he is literally skin and bone now its a shame. just with him being twice as old as we where told i feel like ive missed out

he asked us loads of questions about what and gow often he eats. coz he eats a lot but yet has lost so much weight his fat pads have gone. i thought the inside of the mouth was ment to b a bit yellowish he sed that the bottom of a beardies jaw line below the teeth is reddy pinkish no matter what the beardie colour or morph and he sed because of how yellow it is something he has had for a long time.

I'm so sorry :( You can't blame yourself, he's lived a long life. Even though some of those weren't with you, he's had a pretty good one. You've given him enough love in the time you've had him, to make up for the love he didn't have when you didn't have him.

Penny - its good to hear from you ! I'm so sorry Diego isn't well. I just lost my girl - watched her go downhill for a bit. miss her sooo much. its been said that they don't feel love - maybe not the way we do, but I know she trusted and wanted to be with me - I call that love. so - love on Diego and let him love on you. spoil him to the max! crying for both of us (and you, too, Patsy ---)
