Hi all!
It is finally warm enough in NYC to take our little guy out! Today is his first time out. I held him and then placed him on the grass. Not sure if I totally messed this up... any way, he started eating the grass and weeds right away! For now I took him off and holding him. Is it ok for him to eat grass/weeds if he's on the grass or should I not risk putting him on it?

Thank you!

I thought the whole point of getting them outside was so they could eat the grass, etc., and soak up the sun? Am I wrong?

They like the grass, and dandelions if there too. As long as there are no pesticides, it's a good thing!

Yep getting them outside is a great thing as getting natural UVB is very beneficial!! You just really need to be aware of any pesticides and items/bugs that you don't want them to eat.. some bugs are poisonous and some plants are as well..

here are links and in the food links they provide safe and unsafe plants.

a great reference for feeding :

i generally don't let mine eat grass or weeds for two reasons:
1. I can never be 100% sure that theres no chemicals or anything, even in my own back yard id still rather play it safe
2. I dont know the nutritional breakdown of the grass/weeds thus i have no idea if its good/safe for them

if i let her outside when she's hungry she will eat everything. to avoid that, i feed her a nice big meal before letting her outside so I know she's eating something safe. this generally makes her not interested in eating things outside, although i still keep a close eye. In my opinion, letting them outside is more for soaking up natural sunlight, and giving them extra space to get exercise and explore. Not for eating.
