I was going to put how do I make Pancake poop, but figured I would get... add syrup and butter lol...

anyways.. The only time I have seen Pancake poop is in the car on the way home... on a 5 hour trip. Since then I have seen nothing in the tank...unless it is burried, but I have been diligent in looking. I put her in the bath tub...she didnt move one muscle the whole time, and no poop... I even tried feeding her a bit of iceberg lettuce because I know it gives them the runs...didnt work...

She seems healthy... eating, a bit fat.. but moving, alert. etc..

any ideas?

How warm is her bath water?

You could try pumpkin. It's supposed to help.

I made it luke warm... should I try a bit warmer? I will pick up pumkin ... actual pumkin or canned? and how much?

She really likes butternut squash...some parsely, broccoli once in a while... goes mad for crickets, and super worms, but she has not had a feast of superworms for about 4 days now...

100 % pumpkin, no spices or sugars like pie filling.
Hope that helps out !

Sam tends to go in the bath when the water is warm...around 90 - 95 degrees F. So warmer could help. Do you not have a way to measure the water temp?

I dont have a thermometer... well, maybe I can grab the one from the barn...I will try a warmer bath tonight and just straight squash... do you shred the squash or how do you cut it? She has just been eating little chunks or pieces that I shave off... She does really like it though..

What else can I feed her regularly? Our grocery stores dont seem to have a lot of the stuff in green on that list but squash.....

Just canned pumphin from the store. Should be with the pie and cake decorating stuff. Sandy taught me a neat trick so as to not waste it and so I would always have some on hand. Put the rest of the unused pumkin in an ice cube tray, freeze it and then put it in a ziplock bag abd stick it back in the freezer. It will work. Yoshi is a problem pooper and I would warm it up in the microwave and then feed it to him.

How did the bath go? Bernie only pooped in his bath. I didn't mind. It made for a cleaner viv!

Can you remind me how long Pancake has been in your family?

Pumpkin may be hard to find this time of year b/c it is not Thanksgiving but it is good to keep on hand for your other animals as well. After my cat had surgery he become constipated and the vet told me to feed it if I could find it (which I could not so he had to get Mirilax sprinkled on some wet cat food)

My baby will poop every time in a warm bath. Never fails touches the water and poops, so he gets much cooler baths now.

So, squash is good for making them poop? Well if that is the case I will have the most regular BD on earth. He has decided he will only eat squash and if he is still hungry, most time he is not, then he will eat other things in his salad.

Apples have a bacterial property. I don't even feed my roaches apples.
Hope this helps !

Pancake has been here for about a week and a half. Gave her a warmer bath last night, massaged her belly, and out came the poop. Some clumps, so a bit whitish and stringy.. but it was poop..

She is also starting to shed... on her back by the base of her neck, and her back toes...

Then I wrapped her in a towel and put her on the back of the couch to dry...next thing I know... she and the man are completely passed out... what a household! LOL!. So, I put her to bed with the basking light on to make sure she didnt get a chill for a couple hours and left the man on the couch lol...

I will have to get some pumpkin to keep on hand.

Do you have sand as a substrate? She may be eating some of it while getting her crickets.

No, we dont have sand...yet... Mel seems to want sand in there though.. I tried to convince him to go with complete ceramic tile, but I "maybe" won in getting 1/2 the tank done in that.

right now she has that "bark mulch" looking stuff that the petstore gave us. It will be coming out this weekend though as I can smell it when I come into the house and it drives me nuts.... and, I have read that it is really not good for them.

As for eating her crickets... she is lazy and waits until they come up on the basking log to warm up, then she eats them lol... She may have ingested some of the bark, but like I said, we are going to do a bit of a change up this weekend, now that she has settled in with us a little.

I would definitely take out that substrate. Actually just take it out now and put down paper towels until you make a decision. I would hate to hear that she ate some. That could be awful.

Do you think she pooped completely? I would definitely keep up the warm soaks and some of the pumpkin to be sure she is cleaned out, especially since it was over a week. All beardies have different rhythms and do things different. But for the most part a baby who is eating large amounts of crix and greens, should be going at least every other day minimum.

Remind me the basking temp in her tank and what you are measuring the temp with?

I have to agree with Lisa. Bernie was only a once a week pooper, but that didn't happen until he was around 18 months old. As a baby, he went at least daily.

Papertowels is a great suggestion. And if you smell it when you enter the house, there is a chance that bacteria is harboring in it, which isn't good for Pancake.

As asked, if you could give us your temps and what you are using to measure you temps, it would be beneficial. Temps play a role in digestive process, which leads to happy poopers!

Pancake is about a year and 5 months old...so not a young dragon. BIG too... I have pics on my camera, just need the time to down load them.

The heat lamp is on from 8am till about 10pm..She sits under it all day mostly when it is on, with some movement showing around the tank during the day. It does get warm enough, because I have seen her gaping once in a while... then she goes somewhere else or in the water.

I have one of those dial thermometers right now, but at the wrong end of the tank... that will be switched this weekend until we can get a better thermometer

Oh, sorry, I was thinking she was younger. Once a week isn't that big of a deal. However, without knowing the right temp and her odd poop in the bath, it's hard to say if there is an underlying issue or not. Best bet is to pick up a digital probe thermometer and see what your basking temp is. Gaping at the mouth is thermo regulating their body heat. It is not unusual, but constant gaping could be too hot or too cold of an area.
