Hopefully a new owner

Hey everyone!

My name is Kai, I am 21 in a few days and for my birthday I am hopefully getting a beardy from my partner! It all depends on my new landlord but fingers crossed he says yes. If he doesn't however, I will be getting one after uni/next year.

I have been trying to find out as much as humanly possible about bearded dragons and have been trawling this forum for the last two days to see what I can learn. Anything that anyone can advise me would be fantastic. Right now I am just trying to work out how much roughly a beardy would set me back in terms of electric, so I can speak to my landlord fully informed on how much it will cost (as electric is included in our rent). So any tips would be greatly appreciated, I am in the UK for reference.

I look forward to being a part of the forum, even if I am dragonless for a few more years.

Welcome to the forum. It's great that you're trying to learn as much as possible – because you're going to continue learning. The amount of electricity you will use will probably be less than your refrigerator

I agree with Canicke. I have 4 setups and haven't noticed a big difference in my bill. the lights aren't kept on 24\7 and of the apartment doesn't get below 65 at night you don't need night time heat.

Just remember to turn lights out in the rooms

Welcome! I just became an owner a few days ago. Hopefully all goes well. My advice to you will be that this experience will be a lot of trial and error. Keep reading and learning new things. Cause there is always something new to learn. Cheers.

Ooo that's great to know thank you. I think I should be okay heat wise. If it does drop below am I right in thinking a heat lamp is what I need?

Also as I am at university I am going to be traveling a little. If I can't get anyone to look after them what are recommended for traveling? It'd be by train and it's only around an hour to two.

When you say turn out all the lights, if they are in my bedroom my partner sleeps with the TV on, is it possible to cover the viv with a blanket or alike?
