I have a 40 gal tank that I keep dubia in. I keep newspaper on bottom plus egg crates. I am not looking to start a colony . But I do keep a few hundred in tank. I am needing to know do I have to have heat lamps and/or heat mat for winter? Or is just the normal temperature of the house ok? Also they were kept under Bud’s table that his tank is on in the living room however I moved them into spare bedroom today so do I need to keep bedroom light on or blinds open or is dark better.
Thanks for any reply.

If your just keeping them for feeders and not interested in breeding them then you don't need the higher temps.. Depending on what your household temps are during the winter would determine if you need a heat source.. For example I have a small tank up in one of our spare rooms so I don't have to go downstairs in the basement and our house is set at 73F and they are just fine without a heat source.

Thank you both for responding. Yes, they are kept just as feeders. I usually keep my house in winter around 74 degrees. So will try with no other heat source.

I keep my feeders in the basement with a heat light over them only during the day, they do just fine.

I have a feeder bin and a breeder bin and I keep heat under both.. I keep high heat under my breeder bin and low heat under my feeder bin.. I put heat under my feeder bin because I keep my apartment cold and I notice they were really sluggish.. so I put a heating pad under the bin and my feeders have been perky ever since..
