Has anybody ever been told by a vet that their dragon's fecal sample was healthy/free of parasites? I know that might be a dumb question, but let me explain.
I brought my dragon to a vet recently to get a fecal sample done. This vet isn't a reptile specialist, but he does see reptiles. My nearest reptile specialist is not even in this state, so I felt like it was my best option.
The vet didn't determine anything was wrong with my dragon, but insisted I needed to do everything from an x-ray to injections just in case. I had the feeling like I was talking to a car salesman who just wanted to take advantage of my concern for my baby, to make money. I don't know if all vets are like that, or just mine. I mean, vets have to pay bills somehow, I guess. I of course told him I didn't want to do any of those things, I just wanted to do the fecal sample like I came in for.
Now I am worried that when I bring in the fecal sample, the vet is going to tell me there is bacteria is the stool and I need to medicate my dragon, no matter what. I know there is bacteria in all healthy dragon poops, but I don't know how much is too much or anything like that. Normally I would just trust the doctor to provide that information... But in this case I'd like to know myself, before I go in and buy any medicine from him.
So my question is, does anybody know what sort of bacteria count is normal in a bearded dragon poop?
Or has anybody actually been told by a vet that their bearded dragon's stool was healthy and they didn't need to buy medicine? Of course I don't want to ignore the doctor's advice if Smaug really does have something wrong with him...
