I just bought my first bearded dragon today, was wondering if someone could go over everything. Currently have the basking spot around 100, heat pad under tank under basking spot. He loves to eat his roaches and crickets. Do you guys do the dried veggie food or actually vegetables from the store? I hate the pet store in town and had to get him out of there asap!
Hi we rescue & rehome; Congrats on your beardie; get a 40 gallon tank at least or u can do 20 gallon & after he turns 3 mnths old return it to Petsmart and get a 40 gallon. Temp for a baby should be 100-105 & get a basking platform witha. Hideaway so he can hide from the UVb when he wants & def a hammock to place behind the basking spot, they love them. Use the clear zoomed for heat and the Reptisun 10.0 T5 for UVB. The Reptisun is a long tubular bulb and this UVB & all UVB’s need to be placed 10inches minimum or more away from the beardie. Place it starting at the hot/basking side. And Always replace the UVB every 6Mnths or he will get MBD; brittles bones, unable to walk, move or eat. U need to order this from Amazon or WallMart or a specialty petstore. I’ll post pics. Never ever use colored or coiled bulbs. Keep both lights on for 10-12 hours in the winter & on the summer 12-14 hours. They have more energy in the summer. Dubia roaches & crickets are the best proteins yes and feed 4-5 times a day in 10min increments till he’s 4mnths old then go to 3 protein feedings per day and after 7mnths twice per day and after a year of age & older proteins once per day or every other day. And never ever use dried veggies, pellets or bottled food or meal works theybare horrible for their tummy’s. Everyday place a plate of fresh Greens & veggies 2-4 cut up to his size, basically it should be smaller than the space between his 2eyes. If u don’t place the plate fo greens & veggies now he will new ver eat them when he gets older. Place it on the cold side next to his water dish & replace when it gets wilted. The best everyday ones are: mustard greens, yellow squash ( high in calcium which they need), collard greens, dandelions, endives, butternut squash, snap peas & green beans. Cut them up and introduce new ones and let him eat of your hands to bond with him & then place the plate. A few times a week u may do fruits; they love blueberries, mangoes & papaya are good ones. U may do some apples/bananas. Keep the fruits to a minimum coz they are high in sugar which isn’t the best for beardies. Always Dust the proteins in calcium powder once per day 4 times per week and herptivite once per day/once per week on a non calcium day. Sprinkle like salt on fries. Always mist the Beardie a few times a day. Baths twice per week for 15min minimum & more baths when shedding in lukewarm dechlorinated water. Buy Reptisafe. Remove all food and water at bedtime & all lights off at bedtime. At his age till 6Mnths old use a 60 watt ceramic heat emitter at nite when he sleeps it emits warmth but no light. Under 7mnths of age their temp at nite should be 80-84. After 7mnths u may use the heat emitter only in the winter at bedtime if the tmepmsrops below 70. They can handle up to 70 at nite as they are older. Try not to do the last protein feeding too late because the lights need to be on for 2 hours because it takes 2 hours to digest their food. And keep there cage super duper clean remove poop rite away they hate it and it causes bacteria and parasites. Amd lastly as he gets a teeny bit bigger take him out for an hour or so a day to exercise monitored of course watch them or they will disappear or eat anything off the floor. In the hot summer days he can sit outside with you for some real UVb rays which is the nest for him for 30min to an hour. Never take him oit if it’s cold or windy he can get a respiratory infection.

The sell them at Petsmart or Petco get a 60watt a 100 watt is too much. Either one of these I get mine from Petsmart they sell both of those at petco or Petsmart. Temp should be 80-84 at nite when he sleeps so use it if needed up until he’s 7mnths old then u will only need it in th winter as he’s older if temp drops below 70 at bedtime.
