marley is now 16 months old or abouts, recently we decieded to cut his live food down to every other day instead of every day.as an adult they dont need as much live food an marley has started to eat veg more,i know it sounds daft but i feel guilty incase im starving him,how often do other members feed there adults live food to veg. i thought after 16 months the worry period was over. :-\ :-\ :-\

Yes, our herp vet concurred with us, for adult bearded dragons, proteins every other day and salad should be offered daily.

I go by the rule of as many as they will eat in about 10 min. And it does vary day to day week to week. Sometimes they eat all greens and little bugs. Your dragon will have preference as to what and how much.

I agree with Tom. Let them eat as much as they want. After 10 minutes, they are done. Remove the crickets.

i do the 10 min. rule too. but some times i offer proteins 2 days in a row. it all depends on gertrude's eating trend at the time.

??? This 10 minute feeding time. Does this mean even if they are still want to eat after the 10mins I should take them away. Freda is 15/16 months is this classed as adult and should I only be feeding her crix every other day? Is there any way I can find out her exact age?

If she is still devouring after 10 min, don't stop the feeding process. It is a generalization that most beardies eat their fill in the first 10 min of being exposed to the proteins.

If she is over a year, you can feed her proteins every other day. Not sure how to tell her age other than guessing based on length and weight.

I have a question regarding this topic.

I've heard if you feed too much protien as an adult they can develop fatty liver disease??? Is there any truth to that?

Yes, I have heard this. A bearded dragon adult's diet should consist mainly of greens and veggies. Too much of the same food and too much protein could lead to hepatic lipsidosis (fatty liver disease).
