I was wondering about the sand thing. I too was thinking just an area of It, and tile. I should maybe wait until he's a bit bigger? He's only about 7-8 in nose yo tail tip.
Ti be fair they do grow really fast he will b big enough in no time at least u have the time to look around for a nice tile u want. I got mine from B&Q they where only £2.39 each. I got a vouple extra just incase 1 got broken or scratched n I cudnt get the same 1s.
I had Dexter in sand for a few months it looked real nice but she didn't really seem to care one way or another. She still hung out on her hammock and her log. About a month ago we took her sand out and and put repti-carpet back in and she's been more active. Sometimes in the morning I will find her on the floor of her tank waiting for me and I gave her some slate tiles so she likes to sit with her head on them. If she starts digging I think I will just make her some sort of dig box. Right now she seems happier without the sand.
For Luci, I put paper towels on the side of the tank that he poops and a piece of repti carpet on the side where his salad is. He likes to make a mess with his salad so I can just pull the carpet out and shake it off.
