Does my beardie need time out of the cage?

Hi! So I have a quick question for the people. Do beardies need time out of their cage? I only take him out maybe 1 ortimes a month bec my house is always 65° (my parents have issues haha ) and when I do take him out he feels very cold to the touch so I feel bad and put him right back. Is that ok or does he really need time out of the cage? If yes then how often?? He has room in his cage it’s 40 gallon. I would take him outside so he can get real sun because where I live the heat in the summer is constantly 95°-100° but we had pesticides sprayed for mosquitoes on my whole property so I’m assuming that that’s not an option (correct me if I’m wrong)

I attached a picture of the cage so you can see the size. (He doesn’t run around a lot anyway)

thank you!

Mine likes to cling to my chest and climb on my shoulders, body warms them a little. Just to get him out I’d let him chill on you for at least a little bit on your body while you watch tv or something. Mine looks at Everything when he’s out. Really enjoys it.

Your dragon has outgrown his tank -- I would definitely get him out for around 2 hours a day if not every other --- do not put him in room w/ steam that is a good way to give him a RI---- room temp is not going to hurt him and if you place him in the sun in a room he will get heat but NO UVB as the window will filter out the rays but the heat is good-- I would look at getting a bigger tank - and I would take out some of the stuff like bowls etc in there - the dragon needs floor space-- 75-120 gallon tank -- try FB marketplace or Craigslist - look for one w/ front doors and if you find one make sure you sanitize it real good w/ F 10 found on Walmart.com website or Rescue or Zoo Meds WipeOut -- No yard w/ pesticides --- do you have a porch or patio or deck he can be placed on that - the heat is good just make sure you watch him --

This winter my house was very cold As well,
So i got a hot water bottle, (be careful to wrap it in thick towel, and not to hot) i put it in my lap or a sunny window, my Rusty loved it.
But please be careful they can burn themselves, good luck

No one has mentioned that beardies love their ppl, they interact and need interaction, keeping an animal in captivity with no stimulation is no life for dragon or anyone, you could always make him a safe place outside, a kiddie pool, or outdoor tank, but always supervised of course!

Thanks for the feedback! So I just checked FB marketplace and Craigslist and nobody is selling big tanks in my area so I’m prob gonna get this one (I attached a picture) it’s either I get a 67 or 85 gallon tank if I want the side doors, 85 is way to expensive. I love the kiddie pool idea someone said that I can put him on my porch and he can run around in it or whatever without him getting pesticides. Now I’m thinking and I’m pretty sure the pesticides are in the air as well am I wrong is that not a risk? And side note… I was reading through some other forums and I saw you say that if a tank has a fine mesh screen the UVB has to be inside is that the case?

thanx again for the feedback! :)

If your going to spend that kind of money get a Zen habitat they are 120 gallon and cheaper - get the PVC - www.zenhabitat.com - lighter and no glass- only drawback is the acrylic doors but you can get tempered glass later check out the website and yes on the uvb placement--

The pvc 120 gallon zen habitat is like 389$? Thats what i have , and my bearded dragon demands outside time every day or she’ll poop all over the enclosure and go crazy glass surffing, but is totally fine and will sit in one spot outside for 8 hours straight :( , if u can get the name of the pesticide next time the guy sprays thatd be helpful, he can be outside but not anywhere its been sprayed, it disapates not n the air almost instantly and shouldn’t hurt him.

Ok thank you! Do you Happen to know the dimensions of the 120 gallon cage because my closet is 22” width x 55” length. So it would need to fit in it. Don’t worry the doors remain open 24/7 he has plenty of things to look at. So your saying that the UVB needs to be inside the cage but how can I do that it doesn’t have hooks? And then how far should the UVB from the platform? (this is for my current cage until I get my new one)

My beardie glass surfs everyday I feel so bad I didn’t know why he did it until now. So I’ll take him outside and make sure he stays on my porch or I’ll just get a kiddie pool to put him in. And I will also try to find out what pesticides they use. thanks! Btw ur beardie is ADORABLE!!!

The zen habitat are 2x2x4, two feet high , two feet deep, four feet long, they offer lots of room for adult dragon, if you’re offering outside time every day, this will help with their “wiggles” , a kiddie pool is a great idea, feed him in it the first time so its a good experience.

4x2x2 = 48" x 24" x 24" --- the UVB will need to go into the tank and you can hang w/ these things 3 M command Velcro fasteners- picture hanging wire – long plastic zip ties-- fishing line - potted plant wire hangers or this stuff I use it in my two tanks and it works great - its like a Velcro strap cut into strips and wrap it around your fixture https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-15-ft-Cable-Ties-Hook-and-Loop-Spool-Black-10375/304220195
for a T 5 bulb distance should be 12-15 inches directly over the basking decor and for a T 8 distance needs to be 6-8 inches directly over the basking decor --- NO clear plastic cover over the bulb take it off if your fixture has one

So my closet is 20 inches wide and there’s no possible way that I can fit 24inches so I guess I’ll have to go back to the much smaller one I don’t really see another option.
Thanx for the UVB hanging info

Take him out to exercise for 30min to an hour a day monitored and make sure nothing is on the floor because they ingest everything. However a 65 degree home is way to cold; blast the heater to 80 or so if u are going to let him roam around the house. If he’s cold don’t do it; like I said blast the heater; if not then let him outside in the real sun/outdoors and sit next to him for 30-1 hour daily or 2-3 times a week, but only if it’s hot out; and make sure u don’t leave him unattended for a second he will disappear or get snatched by birds; so sit next to him and plop him up angled on a rolled up towel. Also replace the UVB every 6Mnths religiously and make sure it’s the reptisun 10.0 T5 the 5.0 emits little to No UVb. The UVb stops emitting UVb after 6Mnths even tho it turns on and if it’s not replaced, the dragon will get MBD, brittle bones, no energy, unable to eat or walk and Eventually in some cases death.

So I will take him outside when it’s hot and I’ll turn the house to 72° that’s the most my parents will let lol. But the summer is almost over so I’ll have to figure something else out soon. And that do you mean plop him up angled?
I’ve been using the 5.0 bulb ever since I got him…. Hope he’s not hurt! The vet told me that the way UVB bulbs work is that by 4 months they start deteriorating and at 6 months it’s dead so he said I should replace it 4-5 months after I get it so since he said that I just got the 10.0 bulb so if I start using that will he be more active? Cus he’s pretty lazy.
