This is my 3 month old bearded dragons foot I received her with a toe nip that looked a bit infected. I have been soaking her foot in diluted betadine, spraying with vetericyn & giving her baths daily. Do I need to bring her to a vet or will the toe fall off & heal by itself. Please let me know asap

Was it just one toe and then infection or whatever spread to the other two toes? Has it gotten better or worse since you started treatment? How long have you been doing the betadine? Sorry for the questions but your answers will help.

Well I'm no expert by any means (you'd have to wait for Sadie's friend who is a vet tech for that) but it seems like you're doing all the right things. I'd lay off the betadine and vetericyn for a few days and use Neosporin for about 3 days. Both beta dine and vetericyn are basically cleaners and when used too long can and will actually damage the healing parts/new skin. If the Neosporin doesn't seem to be helping go to a vet. Your baby may need stronger antibiotics. Beware the dosage tho and make sure you use the correct amount. I've seen too many ppl on this site that have misread the dosage to be given. Toenail is definitely gone, not sure about the toe.

She’s been doing good & I’m putting neosporin on her foot now. When I got home earlier I noticed what looked like undigested crickets in her poop should I be worried? Yesterday she ate a lot of crickets 25+ I fed her until she didint want any more. She also would not eat today.

Please check the other forum you posted-- your basking temps are not high enough for undigested food- temps need to be taken w/ a digital probe thermometer- they should be 95-100 for a juvenile/ adult dragon-- please adjust and check the other forum you posted for the foot

Hey. Good lord that's alot of undigested crickets! Her basking temp definitely needs to be raised. Dragons are considered babies until they're five months old. Therefore your basking temp needs to be around 105. She may not eat for a day or two until she gets rid of all that. You're doing good and asking all the right questions. I watch a YouTube channel named AnimalOneGuy. He's very knowledgeable and has good dragon care advice.

I would get the temp bumped up to 105- she looks pretty young -- and watch the insects if they are still coming out undigested then you may need to go to a higher wattage bulb ---- but w/ 105 they should not be undigested -- is she eating the salad?

I have 2 100 watt bulbs that have uvb, & the temp is staying at about 101, she is back to eating & she does eat some of the salad.

109 is ok if she doesnt like it she will move --- your basking bulbs are a ALL IN ONE like a MVB or are they just a basking bulb--- two 100 watt bulbs is ALOT--- do you have the boxes for those bulbs please post --- a clear bright white bulb is going to have UV -- a separate bulb is required for UVB UNLESS your using a MVB those are heat/ UVB -- how is the dragons foot doing?

I got her this originally & the tank I got off Craigslist came with another identical heat lamp same brand & everything. I have them set up so she can bask at a lower temp if she wants— update on the foot, the tip of her toe where the blood was lost has fallen off & it looks great sense I’ve started with the neosporin.

Did you follow AHBD 's advice w/ the toe --- it doesnt look good ---- the Thrive brand and bulb get rid of it please they are NO good -- if you want to stay w/ the MVB please get a PowerSun or a Mega Ray here is some info on distances and placement for them bulbs -- your dragons foot is not going to heal w/ out good UVB and I also recommend getting a long tube fixture for UVB most of the MVB do not emit enough UVB to be effective and you dont want that --- she needs good UVB
The 100w should be at around 12'' above the main basking area for both models. Best not to have a mesh screen in between. If there is a mesh screen, then moving up to a higher wattage (160w I believe in both cases) and slightly raising the distance to maybe 14-16'' or so would be good. I don't have one of the higher wattage models to test though.
If you decide to go w/ just a regular basking bulb get a CLEAR bright white bulb like a Exo Terra Intense bulb NO INFRARED --- start w/ a 100 watt use your digital probe thermometer to get surface temps and if you need websites for the long tube fixture I can post them for you but you want a 24" fixture either way for the basking bulbs your going to use --- but please get rid of the Thrive brand

I have been putting neosporin on her foot for the past 3 days I haven’t used betadine or vetericyn sense because of it harming the new skin I will soak her now in betadine if that doesn’t look good. I just read that the pain relief neosporin is toxic to them so I switched to the regular yesterday could that be why? There’s a reptile expo coming to my area in a month that has a lot of the tube uvb lights, is the thrive setup I have now suitable until then?
