Cleaning inside of the habitat?

How do I clean the inside of the glass on Draco's habitat? Preferably without streaking. I'm assuming windex is a no-go in his home.

And, I think his home is shaping up nicely. He's 10 inches now, so we're using play sand, and he has the run of the full enclosure.

Finally got all of the heating perfect, too, thankfully. (after purchasing 3 different bulbs. lol)

I may not be right but you can clean it with windex then clean again with a wet towel that way the windex isnt on the tank anymore. But i would just clean with regular water and a rag. You should be able to get the streaks out without using poison.

If you're going to try and use a chemical like Windex (which I believe is mostly ammonia and alcohol) remember to let it ventilate A LOT before putting your dragon back inside

Weekly cleaning of enclosure items can be done with a solution of 30% vinegar to 70% water. Use the bleach solution once per month for a thorough cleaning but make sure you also rinse thoroughly! Accessories bought from the pet store should also be washed in the vinegar solution prior to adding them to the enclosure. Do not use detergents or other soaps as they may have the potential to be toxic to your dragon.

Vinegar & Water will give you a streak free glass clean.

Sorry to hijack but I'm curious about cleaning things too but I'm wondering how to clean the driftwood in my Draco's tank, would I use the vinegar and water solution for that as well?

I would. I use vinegar and water for all of Draco's inside cage stuff. I just didn't know it was streak free!

Vinegar is fantastic for cleaning up after pets. I use it in my guinea pig cages, too.

I was reading on a different thread earlier. That they would preheat the over to 300 and let it sit in there for 20 or 30 minutes then remove it and let it cool down completely before replacing it into the enclosure. I have never done this but am considering starting to.

This is the stuff most Veterinary hospitals use, i personally haven’t used it but it has been recommended to me a couple times.

I wouldn’t do 300, that may burn the wood, i was told 225 and for 10 minutes, and i have done this lots of times with different woods, DONT EVER PUT A ROCK IN UR OVEN !! yes… i had had to learn the hard way :( (they explode)

I thought 300 was a little steep. But I use it the other night after I had rinsed and sanitized my sand….. before everyone jumps me…. I have read up on the whole sand debate….and yes it can cause impaction….. but honestly. I have it in only I’d say less than half of my enclosure. And it’s just for something a little different. Now I don’t feed my bear die over there on that side. And my bear die tank is literally right next to my bed. And I keep an eye on him. The first day yes he stuck his tongue a time or two when it was all new. But since then he doesn’t just go around eating it. The only thing I didn’t like about the sand at first was all the dust that was created when I poured it doen
Or would stir it up with my hand. Which I found was largly reduced upon rinsing it several times then drying all the moisture out. I know everyone claims the sand is the devils substrate. Yes I agree it has the potential to be life threatening or dangerous. But so does everything pretty much when it comes to bear die care if improperly used or placed or blatantly misinformed. Now if I ever notice my bear die eating large amounts of it or possibly goin to the bathroom less and less while showing signs of distress or possible impaction. Hell ya the sand will go. But for right now he seems to be doing fine with it. And all it is is for a little bit of diversity. I painted my own back drop. The cool side is a forest. The warm side is the desert so of course I put a little sand to match the scenery. I love my bear die and he apparatus to be doing great and adjusting to me just fine. I’ve had him almost two months from a baby. And he still gets stress marks once in a while. But for the most part is taking down quite nicely and is starting to eat treats and food from my hand.

As you can see there is my setup. And the progress mg lil guy has made since I have brought him home from petco. Only posting these so people can see I’m not harming him by using sand.

Sand is fine when its “play sand” all other sands are “man made” play sand has rounded edges that make it clump less, where as other sands are “Aggregated” and interlock into eachother, basically stay away from man made sand, in my opinion sand is fine (but only if the rest of the husbandry is good, and no more than 40% of the enclosure)

If you make your own thread i can post further about ur enclosure, otherwise we’re just commenting on an dead thread, i like ur handmade backdrops in ur enclosure, kinda hard to see anything else though.
