If a bearded dragon's natural habitat is the desert in Australia and deserts get very cold at night....why do we, as beardie owners, supply heat in the beardies enclosure at night?

They don'tneed any extra heat unless the temps drop below 65 degrees, Pat and in fact it is better to let the night time ambient temps get down tothere because it will slow their metabolism and give them better rest.
These dragons are also not the same as the true wild dragons who have lived their lives in the wild...Iwould venture a guess that the wild dragons are probably much tougher and able to adapt and tolerate things like temp variants much better than captive born and raised...the further away most animals get genetically from their wild state the more they adapt to new conditions such as the enclosures and habitats we provide them and the less easily they can survive in conditions their roots are from. That is why wild animal rehabilitators try and get the creature they help reintroduced into their natural habitat as quickly as possible.:)
