I can't remember where I read/heard it, but I remember someone telling me that you needed a pretty long burn off period for a new MVB. Just got one! How long do I need to leave it on by itself before I can put it over Dude's home?

I'd go the full 4 12 hour days... I do that will all of mine every year.
if you use a temp gun/digi therm/probe, you'll see why I go the full 4 days.
Also, point the light towards the wall... Those intense rays can bother your human eyes.

So I'm finishing my burn off period for my powersun bulb, 100 watt... and it made me wonder (80 dollars later) is that going to be enough? Dude is in a 40 gallon set up... do I need more lights? Need to switch out to something different? I was reading the "Why am I not pooping" link on the care sheet, and it said something about reptisun... the bulb for the reptisun is WAY cheaper... and was the article talking about adding the reptisun to the powersun? Argh confused :(

MVBs are stronger, and offer heat, so they are an all in one bulb. No you shouldn't need any further lighting for a 40. I've got megas over 3 of my 4, and it does make a difference.

Wow...........ya'll got some crazy burn in times.
MVB's are coated......the burn in is to release fumes from that paint and stabilize the bulb.
The strongest in the business recommends 24 hours.

i guess the fact that I'm referring to the Mega Ray makes all the difference here. Read Gina!!!!
sorry

thanks guys!

I don't think my bulb makes it warm enough... I think I may have to exchange it for a 160 watt... temps are like 85 *sigh*

You can add a flood light for extra warmth... i did that in two enclosures... need to do that in the third one.

thanks Janie!

I will probably do that... Went back to petsmart, and I know I'm not crazy I saw the 160 there before, but for some reason they don't carry it anymore. I have an old basking spot light, will just get another lamp.

Also, Dude "initiated" me today... I took him out and put him on the counter while I was making his salad, as I always do, and he just decided that was where he wanted to poop!

Are you referring to the white stuff on the lens? I'm finishing up my burn in and noticed that it is chiping off. Is that normal? I'm buying my First Beardie from the reptile show tomorrow and was unable to reach reptile rv for an answer. HELP Please

spikesdad... are you in Texas? There is a reptile show tomorrow in Round Rock, I was thinking of maybe going but we'll see if I have to work or not... Never been to a reptile show, do you recommend?

Not sure about the chipping...

Just looked at my bulb, there are some flecks missing, but it seems normal, I did take it out and try to exchange it so it may just be wear-tear. What brand do you have?

I have a Megaray SB 100Watt.
I live in California and picked up a Chili red male from outbackdragonranch.
