Bill, our Beardie is 3-4 months old. We got him on 12/31/20. We have never owned a BD before. His appetite and energy levels were excellent for the first 2-3 weeks. He did a big shed around the 15th and hasn't been the same since. It does look like there may be some skin in his eye. He has been rubbing it on everything. His appetite has decreased and he's only pooping every few days now. When I bathe him later today, what is the best way to try and remove what's in his eye? He's obviously stressed, especially in his enclosure. When I take him out his stress marks go away and he is very loving. Any help would be appreciated!

He's also been opening his mouth and making a tiny noise frequently. Not a hiss, more like a lip smacking...

Oo that doesn’t look to good, can u go over your lighting with us? If ur using a coil bulb get that out asap! They cause eye problems, can u post a picture of his setup as well? It doesn’t look like shed to me, if you don’t already have “betadine” id order some, it looks like somethings goin on with his scales, have you gotten a soft tooth Brush and rubbed it ? Anything come off? Do not use tweezers unless a last resort, beardies like to shake their heads when u try to take off shed from their eyes be careful

I have the reptisun 10.0 UVB and a 100W zoomed basking lamp. I use the zoo-med digital point and shoot thermometer. Cool side, mid day is 79, warm side mid day is 90, basking spot is 110 directly under the lamp. Humidity is at 25 on the guage, no water in the enclosure.

I think it's calcium powder on his head, he had a cricket hop in him last night when he ate. I will try the toothbrush when I give him a bath in a little bit.

Distance and placement of the UVB is crucial --- basking temps need to be taken on the spot where he sits --- no on the side of the tank your getting ambient temps -- please tell me what your using for the UVB bulb-- is the UVB inside the tank or on top of the screen

I have a 10.0 UVB above the tank. It is not a screen, its a wide hole chicken fencing so the UVB does get in the tank. I reach in and take the temps, not thru the glass. I hold the temp gun a few inches from the spot to be measured.

Is it the Reptisun 10.0 T 8? Or T 5 bulb?

It's the reptisun 10.0 T5 I believe. The fixture came with a 5.0 but I bought the 10.0 and swapped the lamps.
good deal --- so where is it placed ? Do you have a screen that is a wide hole type or is it a fine mesh like a screen door? The screen will block approx 30% of those rays -- distance will depend on your answer --

I have a wide hole screen, it's actually chicken coop fencing, so the UVB is not blocked.
