You can't set a temp directly, but they work well on basic on/off thermostats which are cheaper than dimming thermostats. It will just automatically turn the bulb on when it hits the minimum set temp and off when it hits the maximum set temp. Heat projectors handle this the same way. You can also raise/lower them like you would with a basking light, but that wouldn't provide as much precision (which may be OK depending on the case).
