I'm sure he won't mind, Gina... It's been too long since I left MN to offer much help myself.

seems i read too fast and it's MN not MI. I really need to slow down.

The list Brian indicated should be good. And I'll see if i have any contacts in that area.

Thank you all of your help in searching for help for Louie. I am Ellie's mom. Ellie is 11 (at school now) and Louie is her first pet. She worked very hard to research the perfect pet for her birthday and it has been such a great responsibility and so much fun for her to have a bearded dragon. She was very careful to do just what the pet store told her to do and to follow the other advice she found online. We assumed that we were being great pet owners and must have missed some of the early signs of MBD.

She has been absolutely devastated to see the changes in Louie. THe MBD is very progressed; we certainly didn't think it could change so quickly. One day he was acting what we thought was normal and getting around just fine and the next day he seemed paralyzed from the back legs down. He is now unable to move. He can lift his head. He has not had any more "seizures" since Saturday evening that we've noticed. He refuses to eat or drink, even by hand. He's had no bowel movements since Thursday. We've learned that there is nothing we can do to reverse the damage or make his life comfortable.

We do thank you for your support and advice.

Jill

there is plenty that can be done to make his life better and reverse a great deal of the current damage. granted he will never be back to 100% but you can help. Dont give up on him. He needs a vet, if you cant or wont give him the help he needs then turn him over to a rescue.

and also i had no idea i was talking to an 11 year she is very well spoken for her age.

I really hope she doesnt take it hard its not her fault alot of petstores i have noticed dont know what they are talking about they have so many different animals and species and dont always hire people with the fullest knowledge to sell them, I have been givin horrible advice from petstores from everything from food to substrates and lighting. At least she has found this site and these people can help her along the way better than any petstore could. I hope you can get a good vet and continue with the advice givin here , best of luck I look forward to hearing progress reports on here soon :-\

Wow, I too had no idea that Ellie is an 11 year old. Very mature and well spoken for her age.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you, Ellie, and Louie. It is a sad truth that many pet stores give incorrect information when it comes to bearded dragon care. I was also a victim once and received bad information for my baby beardie.

As Brian pointed out, Louie can live a comfortable life if properly treated. We have many forum members who have taken on the care of beardies with MBD and have remarked how much they have improved under their care.

Please keep us updated on Louie. We consider our members and their beardies like family and it pains all of us when one is not feeling well. :(
