Hi! I am new to this forum as well as a newer BD momma. I have had my baby beardie for almost two months now. When we got him he was definitely a baby baby. We also got another one a week after we got Rexi. They were about the same size when we got them but Flames is now twice Rexi’s size. Rexi shows signs of MBD such as gorilla walking on his front wrists, and his legs sprawl and he twitches when he gets fed. More recently he has had a hard time hunting his food so I’ve been hand feeding him. He also does this weird freaking out thing when I put him down to run. He is very used to me and let’s me pick him up and love on him. He even cuddles with me, but sometimes out of the blue be just starts flailing...
His set up is as follows, a 40 gallon take with a reptisun T8 UVB, a dome basking light 75 watt, his temps stay between 100-105 and 78ish at night when his lights are off, were on a schedule for 8am-8pm. He has 3 different hides 1 on the cooler side and 2 on the hot. He has a tree branch from the pet store that leads carefully up to his hammock. His hammock is about 4 inches from his basking lamp and that’s where he spends more of his day time.
For the most part, aside from his limbs, he just isn’t getting much bigger than from when we first got him. Like I said Flames, our other dragon, is twice the size of Rexi, and they are supposedly the same age. Rexi has only shed twice since I’ve gotten him, he has a hard time seeing his insects, and he only eats about 4-5 worms at a time. I usually feed him twice a day. I have been trying 3-4 wax worms to see if it would help fatten him up, and 4-5 Phoenix worms for calcium and of course I dust them with vitamins and calcium everyday. He is now down to 4 worms a day. I know this is an extremely low count of insects but even when I try to kind of push the worms to his mouth he won’t open. He just moves his head away. He also eats collard greens, turnip greens and parsley everyday. I try to give him water with a syringe and he usually takes a little. He poops normally and usually everyday or every other day. I don’t see anything in it with the naked eye. I am on a waiting list for our exotic vet as well. But they said it could be a couple months before they have an opening. Other than these few issues I have a happy little baby. He seems healthy for the most part, I just worry about him not eating and growing and his limbs.
I will say when we first got him he was very unresponsive he would hold his arms close to his body and act dead. He did hunt his food for a while but we put him in a tank of crickets and it would take him 3-5 minutes to realize he wanted to get up and hunt. I changed his lighting and his insects to what he’s eating now and that seemed to help a lot with his reactions and movement. I’m just trying to seek advice and some others experiences since I can’t get into the vet and this is the next best thing. Has anyone else experienced this or have beardies that have some similar problems? (Attached are a picture of him when I got him and one a few days ago)

A lot of people have experienced this, you should start giving him vitamins and calcium supplements, because it will help their bones, what kind of lightbulbs do you use for basking and UV? Also you should probably feed him crickets or roaches (for a baby about 3-4 a day) many veggies such as basil, spaghetti squash, and broccoli. Also feed him fruits like apples, bananas, and blueberries. And should change out all his food everyday or he might become interested and refuse to eat.
I hope this helped!:)

Yes it did!! I have a reptisun t5 UBV, and a 75watt reptisun basking lamp dome. He doesn’t like carrots and I just bought squash and blueberries! I don’t change them everyday just every other day so I’ll try that! So is it normal for him to not eat too much? Or normal for the problems he’s having?

This is what one of the people advised she is a long time owner of beardies and has had lots of experience I am waiting for one more person w/ veterinary experience as well
Poor little thing, it could be genetic, something happened while he developed in the egg, poor health of the mother and/or bad care before this person got him. They are doing the best that can be expected, this dragon may never thrive but as long as it's not in pain the owner should continue good care, maybe times in the sun sitting in the grass since it can't run away. Emphasize not to put it in a container outside or on a hot deck or concrete. Also kindly steer them away from where another poster said to feed it apples, they're not really good for beardies and a baby can have a hard time chewing + digesting even small pieces unless they are finely grated. The baby might benefit from liquid calcium as well

Well if he's shedding it's pretty normal, might I suggest a 100-150 watt basking bulb because it's warmer and it worked very well for my beardie to become more alert and active, if he continues to not eat too much you might have to try to force feed him thin slices of his fruits and veggies.
I'm sorry he's going through this, and hope he gets much better soon!!
