How often are you giving baths? I would not brush his scales unless hes shedding real bad--- dragons do not need baths on a daily routine--- too many will dry the scales out --- a dragon should only be getting baths if they drink from the bath or have poop all over themselves-- the UVB your using is a T 5 or T 8? There is a difference between those bulbs -- distance and placement is crucial for the bulbs -- and the screen on the tank --- is it a fine mesh or a wide hole type?
I Only give him a bath and brush his scales when he sheds or about 2 times a month. He has a T5 and it is inside the tank about 15-20 inches away. Those aren’t exact measurements because I’m not home right now but it’s about that far!

Ok you want the T 5 12-15 inches directly over the basking decor piece --- the 20 inches is too far

Ok! I definitely have the proper heating and lighting I just have a quick question about the bath, when hes taking a bath it’s always about arm level but I do brush his scales and some of the water occasionally get on his head, could this be a reason. Also the link above shows how he is breathing! Also I’ve seen videos of bearded dragons swimming in pools! I know that’s not safe but will that cause RI?
Some Beardies love water; swimming is ok Amd splashing water in his back is a good thing u can take a soft toothbrush and softly brush him downwards for 1/2 the bath time. URI is caused by water bowls left in tank overnight, damp times in the cage, humidity levels above 40 which is a big No very bad, water in his ears/super high water level in the bath to where the Beardie can aspirate or ingest the water and taking him outside in cold weather.

Hi; we rescue & rehome & I’m here to help. SADIE tends to give incorrect info, so please disregard what she told you. U need the Reptisun 10.0 T5 for UVB; NOT the 5,0; the 5.0 emits little to NO UVB. Also this UVB & all/any UVB lights in general need replacing every 6Mnths religiously or the Beardie will get MBD. Sadie tells people to get the 5.0 & this is incorrect info!! The distance away is correct the Beardie needs to be at least 10-12 inches away at least; so u r doing good there. Just order the 10.0. Also; YES Beardies need baths twice a week for 15min minimum in lukewarm, dechlorinated water to help keep him hydrated and needs more baths when shedding to allow the shed to fall off quicker, alleviate the itching & to ensure that aol the shed comes off and doesn’t permanently stick to the Beardie causiimg the circulation to be cit off in that area or causing tail rot. Buy REPTISAFE if u don’t have a home filter system. Also if the beardie has an URI he needs a vet asap. Causes of a URI; is water in the ears, high water level when bathing make sure it’s way below his neck/mouth, also never leave his water bowl in the tank overnight, dont leave damp or wet items in the cage, never take him outside when it’s cold, and make sure the humidity is never higher than 40. Get a digital hygometer those are the most accurate ones.

Sadie you do give wrong information!!! U have advised people to get the Reptisun 5.0 T5 all
Over the forum even after I have stated the 5.0 gives off little to No UVB; u also jeep saying DONT give baths to a Beardie; is this a joke? Beardies need 2baths per week & more when shedding, in lukewarm warm dechlorinated water for 15min minimum to stay hydrated, to help the skin fall off during shedding to help ease the itch and to ensure that the shes doesn’t pwrmambtept stick on and cut off circulation & cause dry rot!! Who are you? Do u rescue and rehome like we do? Please mellow out!

And no disrespect but u kinda are putting pressure on his chest in a awkward way, they need support from the tips of their front feet to the base of their tails, shouldn’t really let their front half hang off ur hand.
Hi sorry usually he is handled better but he doesn’t ever sit still, so this is how I kept him for a few seconds, thank you for the feedback though!

Wonderful, did they give him the shot of antibiotics for the URI, it’s 3 doses a week apart. Some vets are not experienced with reptiles so make sure please cuz an URI is deadly
Wiat but they told me it wasn’t an URI and that he was fine, and does seem better now, I do believe his breathing was stressed or excitement induced, I’ve also noticed it happens more frequently when he sheds which he pretty much hates! Could it be from that?

No, it’s not from shedding. Please monitor him and Google the vet; he has to be experienced with reptiles.if not get another vet. Hows the humidity; it shoidl be 30-40 never higher than 40 & How’s the temps in cage; under 8mnths old should be 100-105; never higher and as they get older; 9mnths plus the temp should be 95-97; they don’t like it blazing hot when they are older. It needs to be measured with a UR gun & u should have digital thermometers & digital hygrometers to measure accurately. Also never leave water overnight in the cage while he’s sleeping, don’t get water in his ears when bathing, & make sure the water level is way below is neck/mouth otherwise they aspirate and ingest/breathe in water. All this leads to an URI.

I haven’t really done any of these things and I have a digital hygrometer and thermometer, could there be another reason? He doesn’t have a water bowl, he only bathed with water up to his arms and right now his temperature is about 99-102
