Bearded dragon pooped on couch

Hello recently my bearded dragon finished shed and we began taking him out for play time. Today he came out and was very energetic then laid a little poop on our couch. I may just be paranoid but I am worried about the diseases they carry. We also have a cat in the house that loves to lay on the couch. I picked up the poop with paper towel and wiped the area with Lysol wipes but I cannot wash a couch. Is this safe way of cleaning and is there a real concern with this at all in terms of us or our cat catching something?

As far as I know they dont test for salmonella or ecoli - but dragons have been known to carry salmonella - we need to ask Tracie about this shes a vet tech and would know more about this than I

Hello,

Most reptiles tend to carry low levels of salmonella. However, most of the time it poses absolutely zero
threat to you. As a precaution, simply wash your hands after handling any stool, etc. Disinfect the couch
with a general cleaner, but not bleach obviously. A lot of people use F10 type of cleaner.
In all the years I have had reptiles, I have never gotten salmonella, ever. I did however, handle raw
chicken improperly once & gave myself salmonella poisoning! Ironic, right?
Were you wanting to test for salmonella?

Tracie
