I've been trying to find a solid feeding schedule, from what I understand for an adult fresh salad is offered every morning and a source of insects however many they eat in a 10-15 minute spand every other day? Do you guys offer more at night too? I've successfully owned ball pythons and Leo's for a few years so once I get an understanding on feeding I will be good!

I have always offered mine fresh salads and bugs since they were little. Dexter is 22 months and sometimes she will eat the bugs and sometimes she won't. I let her decide what she wants to do each day. Usually she wants to eat every other day or every 3 days.

Is that offering them both just in the morning or at night? I work a 9-5 job so I could feed him in the morning before and or when I get home. I will have the light on a timer most likely

GRRRRR.....I'm going to throw my phone up against the wall! I'm so sorry Tyler, I thought I responded to this again but I don't see my post here.

I feed them both a salad in the morning. Dexter never eats hers but I still give it anyway. They both get offered bugs in the morning and then again at lunch time. I used to feed them when I got home from work, but Luci gets tired around 4 and doesn't want to eat after that.

No worries! The owner of the one I'm probably picking up tomorrow says he puts in roughly 50 crickets Monday and just let's him pick at them through the week and keeps fresh salad in there every day. Is that a bad feeding plan do you think? I know crickets can "eat" your pet if they don't get ate first haha. But I don't think that'd be the case if there was salad in there for them to eat instead? I work a 9-5 job so I can do salad in the morning and a few crickets every day or other day in the morning as well or when I get home. Just want to make sure he's fed properly

I wouldn't leave crickets in with the dragon. Crickets are nasty, evil little creatures and are very capable of chewing on your pet.

Do you recommend anything else besides crickets for there insect portion of the meal

I like dubia roaches and superworms, myself. Roaches don't chirp, don't bite, can't climb smooth surfaces, don't stink, and can't live/multiply outside their enclosure.

They are also more nutritious and larger so you don't have to feed as many.

The downside is that they're expensive unless you breed them yourself.

I don't want to say price is an issue but at the same time I don't want to sound rich haha. But If Dubai roaches are better for him I will get those could I leave those in a bowl for him if he hasn't ate and I have to leave for work or is that still a no no?

I supply mine with dubia roaches and superworms, he's fed twice a day (well once yesterday because I really didnt want to get up) and I alternate between em. Never tried crickets with him, the punk is too lazy to even chase down a super, I doubt he's chase for a cricket. And he's given fresh salad daily and again if he's eaten them all. Feed young-juvis insects twice daily, adults are the ones who are fed less often.

I'm picking up Phoenix tomorrow after work. He's said to be roughly 2 years old the owner got him when he was about a month supposedly. So the plan in my head is to feed constantly keep a fresh salad in There and offer roaches/superworms. Maybe crickets as well since he's used to them already. Once a day in the morning

I've left superworms in a glass bowl for the day without any of them escaping. If he is 2 years old then feeding him once a day is okay. You will probably even notice that he won't eat every day. My almost two year old will go a few days without eating(not because I don't offer her food, it's because she refuses it) and then gorge on supers and horn worms.

I feel your pain. I'm no moneybags, either. There's only one store in my city that sell them and they charge $4 for the first dozen, $3 for each subsequent dozen. Ouch.

It's a lot cheaper to breed them, but it does have a bit of an upfront cost. Even better is that the aforementioned pet store has offered to buy any surplus roaches once I get breeding.

Superworms are only slightly more expensive than crickets, I think. But easy to take care of. I did accidentally leave one in the vivarium and Fenchurch missed it. Found sawdust on the tile he next day and found out that the little worm burrowed its way into a piece of wood that Fenchurch refuses to ever climb on. Watch your furniture with superworms.

I still wouldn't leave roaches in the vivarium for more than 10-15 minutes. They won't hurt the dragon, but they will find somewhere to hide and scare the crap out of you during your next tank clean.

Yes, super worms are DIGGERS! I will put Dexter and Luci on the front room carpet and throw a super worm at them and that darned worm will search for a piece of loose carpet and try to burrow in it.

Oh yeah. You don't feed nearly as many roaches to your dragon as you would crickets. They're much larger and much meatier. Roughly, 1 roach is good for about 3-4 crickets.

Ya they seem pretty pricy but owell would an adult eat the 1" roaches or stick to smaller still

@drzebra $4 for the first dozen roaches??? That's nothing, I have a reptile store near me that has them for $1 a piece! I bought 5 of different sizes to see if mine would eat them. Lucky for my credit card, they didn't really like them.

Oh and let's not forget Petco, they have them for $10 a piece!

Fenchurch is never too lazy to chase down food. When I see her looking lethargic and wonder if she's feeling ok, I just drop a superworm in the tank. 0-chomp in nothing flat, and a mean glare if more don't follow.
