Hello

I've been researching everywhere to find an answer to this problem I have and I found this forum and seen alot of posts from you so I'm hoping you may be able to help if you see this.
So basically my 4yr old has probably been laying eggs on and off for the last two years consistently longest period without laying was 5 months but then she seemed egg bound and finally had a big clutch. Now she seems to like a pop out an egg or two every couples days or so. Overall she seems happy, she eats, poops, goes for swims, currently sitting in my bedroom window and her little heating blanket and she layed one egg while I was writing this to you... lol
Newaz sorry for the long msg hopefully you may have an idea for as to what may be happening?

Thanks

Chris

Hello Chris,

This is a common issue many times, when they lay a large clutch they can sometimes retain a few in
their system & lay it over the course of a few days to a week.
I would actually consider getting her spayed if she continues down the road of laying so many eggs.
Over time, it can definitely affect the health & zap the calcium stores in the long term.
Have you been giving her some extra calcium lately to help restore her calcium reserves after laying
multiple clutches?
What UVB light do you use for her?

Hey
Thank you for getting back to me!
So she ended up laying her full clutch of eggs since I sent the post. Which is what she will normally do at some point. My concern more so is that she will be ready sometimes within a month ready to lay more eggs again. I was told that I may be feeding her to much protein but I have also read what you suggested getting her "fixed" essentially bc she may have an over active reproduction system. That being said I have read that the surgery is somewhat invasive and there are exotic vets in my area but I wouldn't say there is specially a rep vet. Sorry long post.. so realistically is there something you would suggest otherwise or again something that could be causing it? Oh and she uses a uvb30watt bulb
I will send a pic of tank aswell

Thanks

Chris

Please replace the uvb w/ a long tube fixture - mvb are great for heat but she's basically getting no uvb- thrive is not a very good brand- you can use it for heat but please invest in a long tube fixture- I can post 3 good brands for you if you like

Please do if you don't mind
Could this bulb be attributing to her behaviors or egg laying?

Good UVB is crucial to her overall behavior and health so I am going to say yes - it is vital for calcium absorption and utilizing it --
this are fixtures that are 24" for a 40 + gallon tank
Zoo Med https://www.petsmart.com/reptile/en...-t5-100-high-output-terrarium-hood-86817.html this one has the 10.0 bulb you need
https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle.../products/arcadia-prot5-12-uvb-bulb-with-hood or this one
Sunblaster Nano Tech you want the 2 ft or 24" the bulb will need to be changed out to the Reptisun 10.0 T 5
https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...d-reptisun-10-0-uvb-t5?variant=26907418591332 22" bulb
When you get the UVB please post back on here I will help you get it set up for the screen on the tank - its going to determine placement and distance

Ok great -- what is the screen on the tank ? Fine mesh like a screen door or a wide hole type? this will determine where the UVB needs to go

ok that is a wide hole but it also looks thick -- you can try it on top of screen w/ a distance of 8-10 inches directly above the basking decor - I would go 8- I want her to be able to get enough UVB - watch her behavior like how long she is sitting under the UVB - if shes not sitting there very long it could be its too strong and then you can readjust the distance- only basking light should be used and if you have a ceramic heat emitter only when you need it at night -- I am sorry I looked at pic but couldnt tell what all were - what is the long fixture one?

ok so you only need your basking lamp which I am assuming your using the MVB for that they have good heat not so much UVB and the 30 watt UVB? I have not heard of those- if its a coil in a dome get rid of it- you only need your basking light and your Zoo Med now -- change the UVB out in approx 10-11 months --

Absolutely -- please keep me posted we Tracie and I always like to get updates -- if I cant help you I can find someone else who can -- just make sure you keep an eye on her behavior as I posted earlier -- if your unsure we may have you readjust the UVB -- her behavior is going to tell you - eating her coloring and pooping and the egg laying as well should improve - unless she has other eggs issues going on internally we cant see lets see how that goes -

Hey
So hasn't eaten much since we have spoken and she was digging alot but has seem to subside. The other light isn't Makin it hot enough though I think I'm only sitting at 23 degrees Celsius
You said to buy a heat emitter instead?
And the new light doesn't feel bright enough either do u suggest another type of light to use aswell?
