Well, she's still bloated in the belly & hollow in the flanks, but she doesn't seem distressed and has, for the time being at least, stopped digging. She's eating mostly flowers & greens (from my mom's completely spray-free garden), with occasional calcium-dusted insects. She's done a very...
I was up late last night doing research, as my mom is firmly convinced we should be hoping she reabsorbs any eggs produced by leftover ovarian tissue.
Turns out that is not a good thing, it can really damage their liver. I'm going to call the vet when they open in a few hours, find out what...
So I haven't posted since losing my beloved Gojira to aggressively metastasized osteosarcoma, just 6 weeks before what would have been his 3rd Gotcha Day.
I adopted him as an adult, oh the irony, because I had read about early-adulthood cancers being a problem in some commercially bred (as in...
Tonight my beloved Gojira was set free of his pain. What we noticed just a few weeks back & all (including the vet) thought was a cyst or abscess in his left hind leg turned out to be extensively metastasized sarcoma.
He was only 7.
Despite the devastation & grief, everyone who's ever met me...
Seconded! My local pet store & the chain stores 50 miles away all just lost their source for crickets AND super worms due to a temperature accident with the distributor's facility that killed 6 million breeder bugs. I'm picking up from skimming the older posts on this thread that Dubias are...
I went out of my way to get a male bc of egg-related problems exactly like these (my mom has chickens, egg binding terrifies me) & wanted an adult over 3 after finding out about some cancer-prone bloodlines in commercial stock. I knew I wasn't going to be able to afford an adult from a breeder...
Thank you for this AWESOME post, I hope a lot of newcomers & potential future beardie owners read this!
My guy does have a nighttime heat lamp, but he sleeps in a completely darkened area after I found out about eye damage being a possibility. He was left by his original people to sleep flat...
At that age their tiny brains are still very instinct-driven. They haven't had time to learn much about their worlds. I read a lot about babies under 6 months often being skittish & requiring very gentle handling; I'd be afraid to break one that tiny which is why I adopted a 4-yr-old male. He...
I am SO SORRY you lost your baby girl. I lost a 2-year-old male to unexplained kidney failure last year, he held on for 8 weeks but we couldn't get him eating again & we still don't know (probably never will) what happened but we suspect some kind of chemical exposure & the ADV virus were...
I didn't know there's a blood test! That would certainly make it easy to find out if ADV is any part of the problem, and I'll be asking Goji's vet how much the testing costs.
I tried giving Gojira bee pollen as a treat. The good news is he LOVES it. The bad news is it seems to be what caused his "hacking" cough-like behavior because it got stuck on the inside of his mouth.
What does work for him, though, is putting a few of the granules of pollen into a small...
That looks like an abscess of some kind. (Source: I have been a home health care provider since 1986, I've seen a LOT of infections.) Cannot recommend strongly enough: vet time!
You mentioned a twitch--is it toes?
My late great Stevie Ray had twitchy toes. If you stroked the top or played with the claw while he was relaxed, especially the 2 longest toes on his hind feet would twitch for a minute or so.
Turns out this may have been related to a virus common in...
Update: Gojira is currently in ShedHead McGrumpFace mode, preparing to peel a strip across the top of his head that wraps around one ear, along his lip, & including the very tip of his chin. He's both sulkier and clingier than when he's not about to shed off.
He's also grumpy lately bc...
Majestically surveying the dry montane forests of the Idaho Panhandle. He will ride like this for hours; he's put about 8,000 miles in riding with us in the short time we've called him family.
