We got a cute little beardie about 8 weeks ago. I believe he’s about 5 months old. I hand feed him his greens every day and feed him his crickets and mealworms with tongs. We try petting his head and/or picking him up everyday to bond with him, but he squirms whenever we hold him and wants down almost immediately. And that’s if he doesn’t run away from us. I was under the impression that Beardies are more social and don’t mind being held, but I’m starting to think I might just have an antisocial one. How long does it usually take for them to warm up to their people and want to be out and held? Maybe he’s still too young? He seems happy otherwise, and his husbandry is all good.

It may take a while -- we got Blaze at around 2 months and he was the dickens-- took months for us to hand tame him - he would bite and hiss at us -- it got to the point I was picking him up w/ a glove on but kept working w/ him hand feeding him BSFL super worms and silk worms as well - had my hand in his tank every day - I only held him for no more than 5 min in the tank or right in front of it -- they do come around its going to take patience and time --

Hello, another way for him to get use to you is to put a piece of your clothing in his enclosure. Keep trying to handle him a little each day. I got my girl Napoleon when she was about a month old and she was very hyper and loved to jump. She didn't want to be held or to go outside. Now she is almost 2 years old and loves to sit on your shoulder or for someone to hold her. Unfortunately she is still afraid of going outside but she loves people.
