my poor beautiful baby Iggy, who’s 3-4 months old and i’ve had for a few weeks, i got home. Fed him a cricket and he regurgitated the body with a lot of blood spluttered everywhere, he then went limp and closed his eyes, i thought he was dead. I done everything i could from CPR to trying to drain his lungs from possible aspiration, i’ve finally put him to bed after hours of debating what to do as all local vets were no help at all and going to take him first thing tomorrow, just wondering if anyone has an idea or similar experiences that could give me some insight on this dreadful situation, he kept coming in and out of consciousness, is wheezing and looks like he’s heaving / gasping for air. Attached some pictures for better insight, many thanks **EDIT** He didn’t make it through the night :(

I'm so sorry, how traumatic for Iggy and for you. There's no way to know unless you get a necropsy. Poor Iggy might have swallowed something sharp in the enclosure but for some reason these symptoms all started after eating the cricket. Were the crickets very large ? These are only guesses, there's just no way to know. Some beardies even develop cancer of the stomach but that usually happens to adults.

i tried getting a necropsy and it was such an ordeal. Where i had him less than a month i hadn’t registered him to any vets yet and they can’t give me one without a veterinarian referral?? the crickets were large yes, but he had eaten many of them before. This one just caused issues, people said impaction, i just don’t know:( it was so sudden and horrid to witness

he did look bloated ! i thought this he went poop everyday at least once and after the ordeal of him slowly dying, he pooped about 3 times and also released a lot of clear see through white liquid over my hand, his surface basking temps ranged from 38-43 and he had the arcadia t5 14# 24w

Hello,

Oh wow, poor little one. I am so sorry you lost him like that.
It sounds like possible impaction. Your substrate, is it loose, I can't tell very well from the picture.
Vomiting up blood was indication of possible impaction, but it sounds like it was sudden. Was the
cricket too large fo rhim?
I am sorry for your loss. It is the worst feeling in the world to lose a precious dragon.

yes, he had a mix of top soil and approved play sand that was supposedly safe! will not be using loose if i ever get another one, but it was indeed very sudden - the cricket was rather large but so were the other 20+ he had eaten in the past, maybe it went down sideways or something? i’m really not sureit definitely is the worst feeling, i feel i have let him down massively; thankyou for your reply

Hello,

I am sorry, I know it's hard to lose them suddenly. Unfortunately,
accidents of all types happen. I am positive that he knows how
much you loved him & that whatever happened was an accident.
It's hard to know exactly what happened for sure.
My condolences, so sorry for your loss of Iggy.
