I'm curious as to the cost of Dubias and why they are so expensive relative to other feeder insects?

Are there not enough producers?
Expensive to breed?
Hard to keep?

Relative to every feeder I have looked into, they cost about 3 to 4 times as much as any.

Unless your lucky and get a deal.

But general market price, is so much higher...

Any help would be appreciated.

It's supply and demand there the best staple out there.therr easy to keep and breed that's what most do.look up Brett Roaches and CJ Brimmer on fb for all your insect needs both are amazing people with great prices

Just got my order of 100 medium dubias and my dragons ate about 60 already in one day. Needless to say I guess they will be a treat every once in a while. And I'll stick with crickets as their main source of protein.

Brett can get u some good deals on starter colonies.he also sells like 6 other types of roaches too.next yr I'm going to try to get a colony of Madagascars from him.cj he does auctions almost every day with all kinds of feeders.try to get feeders that are easy to start up like I did.i do supers and dubias and that's helped with the price alot

Hi there. Dubias are not expensive insects to breed, however there are a few things to take into consideration. From nymph to adult approx 5+ months. The females once adult take another week to breed. She then carries her ootheca for a further 65 days and then the babies are born. Normally on everage about 25 nymphs. She then looks after them for another week until they wander their own way and then she's ready to breed again. So from nymph to adult to babies a cycle of approx 7 & a half months. Then another 70+ days for the next batch.
Crickets on the other hand are very fast to breed so the price is a lot lower. Madagascar Hissing roaches are even more time consuming so more expensive.
